Sometimes when I'm the host, I can hit the scoreboard button and still see everyone else with the "connecting" icons while I"ve got full green bars.
Same. You'll be the first person to connect, you'll see a much longer countdown counter appear at first (like 15+ seconds countdown, then it flashes down to 5 once everyone connects). It's pretty obvious.

It could have been entirely psychological, but last night I think I had an interesting host situation. Playing FFA, first game on WMD I was host with 3 other people. I mopped up, 30-10 with only one other player getting a positive K/D.

Next map is Stadium and one of the players from the previous map got host. I went ridiculously negative (also due to a few other players joining) and said host cleaned up, Huey, etc.

On the PS3 there are a few ways to see if you're host:

- In a new lobby, you're at the top (assuming 0 scores for all)
- When you enter the map, the countdown timer will hit ~19 seconds briefly, and if it does...
- Hit select and cehck the other players, they'll be connecting or have low ping initially

Also, you get a lower frame rate on certain maps. As I have a decent ping (as fast as 11ms when things are good) and a solid 1Mb upload I often get host if someone rage-quits. It's annoying...

That's just what I said before!

I'm getting upgraded to a 30/5 connection this week. Hoping the bigger pipe and upgraded connection will (A) stop dropping me occasionally from games when I'm host and (B) get me host more often

I could be wrong, but I know I've been in a lobby where we just finished a game and the highest person with the score is on top. Then there's a host migration and all scores get reset to 0, but the list order stays the same, which means that the top person on the list isn't always the host.

Yeah, I too am thinking of skipping out on it. I only bought the last pack from peer pressure. Although I will say, this pack looks better than the first. Fighting in a zoo = win.

I'm torn. I enjoy blops for the most part, but I have plenty of other games to keep me occupied. All of which I paid less for than the map pack costs! Also, I just realized I won't be able to take advantage of the double XP weekend (out of town).

Hmmm.....I'm thinking maybe not. I'd rather put that money towards Crysis 2 down the road.

I do enjoy the new maps but am not excited at the thought of shelling out more money for more maps that'll have even less players in the pool that own it.

this, the price ratio is really bad for 4 new maps. TBH if they only did 1 release with all 8. 15$ would be a much better deal

I generally get so much value from each CoD game that I somewhat forgive the ass raping on the map packs. Still, I wish there were 5 real MP maps and they didnt waste time, money and energy on that stupid zombie mode.

I'm going to be buying it. I play so much BLOPS that it doesn't even matter at this point. I'll get my money's worth out of them I'm sure.

Do they usually only release 2 map packs? This is the first COD game that's held my interest long enough to make it to map pack #2

As of right now, I would have to play the game for 1-1.5 hrs to get through all the maps on our servers rotation. And most players drop like flies when we get to them.

The only reason why I purchased them was to keep playing with my friends - which is exactly why I hate Activision and the purpose of DLC. It's a planned exclusion, and makes you feel like you really bought the game for 60 + 30 dollars. My clan is not getting the next map pack. 90 dollars for a game is steep and I feel like a sucker for buying the first one.

BC 2, which I hated at first, offers you a complete addon with new weapons, maps, characters, and animation with Vietnam for 15 dollars. So screw you Activision and I hope your market share gets cut in half come BF3.

You're obviously talking about the PC version. On the console version, it will not stick you on a server that rotates DLC maps with stock maps, and vice versa if you don't own the pack. This includes grouping with friends.

Anyone else annoyed at the sore losers disconnecting their cable from their console and causing the game to end prematurely? I swear this happened to me 5 games in a row last night.

A couple weeks ago there was a guy in my lobby bragging about how he was going to get 1000+ kills that night. I pulled up his playercard and his K/D ratio was over 4.0. About 7 minutes into the game I figured out why it was that high. He was on the losing team having a negative game and happened to be host, so he dashboard'd. I'm guessing he has a speedy connection and is usually host, and when he has a bad game (like that one) he just disconnects.

I'm glad I have things in my life that I consider more important than my K/D ratio in a video game. D:

Man I hate when people drop mid game because they're losing. Just had it happen in the last game a few moments ago on headquarters in hanoi.

Yeah, a lot of people "dashboard" on the 360 version which kills your connection. I've met a few guys with ridiculous kill ratios who were really just that good, the majority of them pad their stats.

I did play against a trio of guys who all had something like 4:1 - 6:1 kill ratios and 5:1 win ratios, I hoped they were cheaters. They weren't...they absolutely man-handled us (and their other three random teammates were awful).

So I've been swapping around the past few call of dutys for a few days, and I have to say that when all is said and done, BO is by far the most playable.

Saying COD4 is the best is the easy way out. It's still pretty fun to play, and not really all that broken, but it's not as refined or interesting as later installments. Not nearly as much weaponry and equipment to play around with. The maps that are good are great, but there's fair share of maps that just make you groan when you have to play them (wet work). The major silliness is about 1/3 of the players are psuedo-quickscoping with the a cog. It doesn't break the game, but it seriously detracts.

WaW has held up surprisingly well. Unlike the IW games, nothing is really broken. The MP40 is a strong SMG, but it's not a total super weapon at all ranges, and it doesn't make the game silly. The constant dogs are annoying, but overall it's still a great game to play if you dig WW2.

MW2....now this was the shocker to me. I've always loved MW2. It has the best maps, bar none. The intraclass balance/variety of weapons is excellent. But the game is just completely broken, almost completely unplayable at this point. 1/2 or more of players are quickscoping with an intervention in any given game. Another 1/4 are OMA/DC noob tubing. More often than not youre dead before you can even react, the weapons are so powerful. Youre constantly bombarded by voice messages for boosting lobbies. The killstreak stacking is ridiculous. It seems like all the people that played the game for fun left, leaving only the most hardcore of hardcore. It's just not a fun game to play anymore.

Overall, despite it's bland maps and weapons, BO is by far the most finely tuned, and least annoying/broken game. Sniper rifles are sniper rifles, not shotguns. The famas is overpowered but not game breaking, and the Uzi is underpowered, but not useless. However uninteresting treyarchs games may be compared to IWs, they seem to be holding up better over time.

If there's one thing I hope for MW3, its that they get rid of killstreaks. Theyre really what end up spoiling every game in the end. There still should be UAVs, helicopters and all, but I don't think they should be doled out strictly on the basis of killstreaks. Something more like what homefront did, where a steady positive benefit to your team such as capping a flag gets you a bonus, not just how long you can stay camped in a corner without dying. In either case I hope the new IW isn't so arrogant not to learn from BO. I can see BO being fun and playable for many years to come. Unfortunately, MW1 and MW2 are pretty much dead.
