Alrighty, opinions before i knock my self out:

They did an awesome job overall, i played the first 2 campaign missions and a LOT of MP(Rank 27/1.5KDR).

First, the game does feel a lot like MW2, it feels like the took the best elements from MW2 and put their own touch.

The knifing is actually decent now and not as erratic as in MW2, the guns actually handle a bit better.

The perks are perfectly balanced, there are not other words.

Few to none OP weapons

Chopper gunner is the ONLY killstreak that i do not approve of, that thing rips through EVERYTHING!

The Cash system flows very smoothly, you earn what you get, it is very true, and if you're good, it can be very generous, i raked up about 70K for the while i played.

In the scroll bar, there are some very random and interesting facts...apparently, people have already played 493 years of Black Ops, how useful to society, also, we've killed like .5% of the world's population

Favorite maps so far: Nuke Town/Launch

Most hated maps so far: Jungle/Crisis/WDM(?)

Favorite weapons i will keep to myself :sneaky:

I'm really f'ing tired, so ima hit the sack and will give any other opinions tomorrow, feel free to add me on PSN, forum ID is the same as PSN ID.!

so far not really impressed at all.
looks like a first gen 360 game.. (like shit)
playability wise seems at least 2 steps back from even MW2.. MP and SP

I don't get this. You don't make sense. It's like you want to hate it. It's the same engine, same gameplay as MW2. They removed a lot of garbage and added some fun stuff like ultra customization... it's 10 steps AHEAD of MW2.

Played some more, and have some (small) gripes:

I want to play gun game outside of a wager match. It's silly that I have to bet 10 points just to play the mode.

I also would like to see a team gun game, as that's some of my fondest memories back in the counterstrike days. It should work just as well here given what I've seen.

Despite the engine being the same as MW2, it does look noticeably worse in multiplayer. Not distracting, but it's noticeable.

Fix the damned party system. It takes forever for a party to actually all get into a game. Once we're in we stay in without problems, but that first game is damn near impossible to get started.

That's it for now. It's loads of fun.

Just finished the campaign. I wasn't liking it at first, but as it got closer to the end it got better. Only 1 glitch that I noticed and that was
when I was going through rebirth island as Hudson, and all the guys that I killed as Mason were standing up but completely still like mannequins everywhere.

They're not using the modern warfare 2 engine, they're using their world at war engine which was based on COD4 engine. The game does look slightly worse than modern warfare.

also i had the same issues when joining party.

I played a good bit yesterday myself, I'm sort of torn about the game.

On one side they fixed alot of what was "wrong" with MW2. Commando, Danger Close, quick scoping, heavy reliance on killstreak rewards, I'll even throw Stopping Power onto that list. The lobby and party systems are theoretically great, I like the credit system, good stat tracking, etc.

That said, I restate my previous...statement: They sacrificed quality for quantity. Look at the animations, look at the player models/textures (in MP at least), look at the gunfights and such, it is simply not up to par with MW2. I started the campaign (just assassinated "the target" in the very first section so that's what, maybe 5 mins thus far?) and even it seems to have lost that special feeling that was in MW2. While I'm glad they fixed quick scoping they have essentially made sniper rifles all but useless. I got to lvl 26 last night and was sniped exactly 1 time all night...

It seems the hit detection is messed up as well, several times last night I got the drop on someone and absolutely lit him up at close range only to have him whirl around and kill me in 2 shots...what? Sure it happened in MW2, but not this often.

I too had tons of issues finding a game. We'd get stuck trying to find another team to play, it'd drop the rest of my team, etc. I bet for every 2 mins of game time I got I spent 1 minute trying to get my team into a game, ridiculous. Also, it seems to have lost the "repopulate after an enemy leaves" function that MW2 enjoyed.

Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the game a good bit and I do see alot of good stuff, I'm just not sure it's the sequel I was hoping for. I'll put more time into it though.

Sniper rifles were a bit good in MW2, but I disagree with Kabob. The snipers will come, it is just a bit early and no-one knows the best sniper positions yet. I was playing on the snowy multiplayer map on Demolition and found a real treat of a spot near the mountain pass. Racked up 6 kills as the enemy team were constantly crossing my view. At short range however, there is no longer a sidearm capable of taking on an assault rifle or SMG.

This is one of my main criticisms of the game. Shotguns should be side arms not primary weapons and the pistols so far I have found to be all but useless (I am only level 13 however, so maybe the magnums are different).

Loving the game apart from this one aspect. I can't wait to get off work and buy some more perks!

I do agree here. Theres a lot of little things they could have done to make it better. For example the one i noticed right away was when you go to custom classes and are looking ta weapons (im like 90% sure thats where i was, might have been the stats page or something though) but it showed my guy with the mp5k thing. But when id hover over say the m16 it would still show him with the mp5k. It wasnt till i clicked the m16 that he would then hold it. Seems like it should auto change the gun/layout of the guy as you hover over the different options in my mind.

Its mostly little things like that that i have noticed so far. Game play wise it is right on. improved MW2 and i think it will only get better as you level up. At low levels i feel so limited (by both cp and what is available to unlock)

So here are my thoughts on the multiplayer. I managed 13 TDM matches last night in total, so I feel like I got a pretty good feel for it. With those 13 matches, I managed to reach level 12, so leveling up so far is pretty damn easy.

COD Points

I'm really liking the COD Point system so far. There's so much to buy, from weapons, equipment, perks, addons, decals, etc. I personally enjoy the aspect of having to choose carefully (at least early on) what you purchase, but I wish there was a way to test guns before you purchase them. It's not really that big of a deal since they aren't particularly expensive, so I can get over it.

After my first 10 TDM matches last night, I had racked up around 18k points, which did seem to be quite a bit. That was with a overall k/d ratio of approximately 1:1 by the time I got done, so I wasn't doing anything spectacular. I liked that all the perks are open from the start (or level 4 when you get to create classes) to purchase as well having all of the addons immediately available for a weapon when you buy it.

Control

Personally, I love the slower pace. When I hopped into my first online match, it felt like I was trudging through molasses. It honestly reminded me of back when you'd play some CoD4 and then go back to Halo 3 and Halo felt so insanely slow. Given the slower pace, I'm not seeing some of the things I hated about MW2, which basically favored the great twitch players out there and left the rest of us gasping for air. I almost always now see the person who kills me before they actually kill me, which is great. In MW2, you'd be killed instantly and not know what the hell just happened.

I'm also enjoying the reduced grenade throw distance. It feels more realistic and I think it helps me put the nade exactly where I want it almost every time. I find the explosion damage range is pretty good too, at least for my tastes. It's hard to get a kill straight out with one, but they make a great softener to flush an enemy out of cover at near death or a finisher if they take cover to reload.

Maps

So far, I think the maps are fine. I really liked the small Nuketown, but it can definitely go to shit pretty quickly if one team gets spread out over the entire map. At that point, the spawns are erratic and you never know where you're going to spawn in front of an enemy. But if both teams basically stay on their sides, then you'll always spawn behind "your" house and you can have a pretty damn good battle back and forth. On a side note, in my very first match on this map, I remembered the comments about it being extremely small. As soon as the match started, the first thing I did was run up and hurl a nade over the bus, not knowing where I was throwing it. It landed next to a car, which blew up and killed two enemies to start the match. When I played this map again later on in the night, I did the same blind nade throw and killed another. This will probably become commonplace as people play the map a little more, so keep an eye out.

I think my least favorite map so far that I can remember the name of is Launch. I hate the missile launch mid-match and it shaking your screen for what seems like forever. Plus, half the map seems like it's wasted over on the side where the actual missile is (at least I think that's where the missile is) because it's just out of the way and too wide open.

Other Stuff

The perks look pretty damn balanced to me. In each slot, I'm not seeing a single perk that I feel is basically required to stay competitive, which means the choice that should be there, is. One odd thing I noticed is that when I switched away from the default Lightweight perk 1, I didn't perceive any difference in speed.

Killstreaks have really been toned down and I like it. I feel like when the enemy gets a helicopter, that they earned it. I did buy the SAM based on BD's recommendation although I haven't been able to put it to good use yet. Both times I was able to call for it, the enemy either found me as I was placing it or killed me while I was waiting for the drop and they stole it. I wasn't expecting it to be like a care-package the first time I tried to use it though.

The leaderboards are completely broken for me. After my first 10 matches last night, I went into theater mode, which lists your last few games and gives a few quick stats for each match. These stats show correctly, so I went through all 10 and added up my kills, which was at 93. When I went to the leaderboards though, it showed me with 753 kills. I'm hoping that when I hit level 13 tonight and unlock the Combat Record, it will show everything correctly so I can still get a decent idea of how I'm doing. I don't really prefer how they've segmented the leaderboards via game modes though. I didn't see an "overall" leaderboard for stats like in MW1 or MW2, which I'd rather have just for friendly comparisons to friends.

Through all of my matches, I've stuck with the M16 and I'm finding that I'm at a disadvantage a lot of times since it takes a couple of bursts to make a kill. Many, many times did I get the first couple of hits on a guy, only to lose the battle after he takes one shot. I'm not familiar enough with the guns yet, though, to know what I'm being killed with, but I need to figure it out.

I love that shotguns have been nerfed quite a bit. I had one guy get the drop on me and fired a blast from his shotgun from approximately 30 feet away or so. By the time I swung over to target him, he had fired another shot. Neither shot hit me even though the blast was very much in my direction. I took him down pretty quickly and I'd have to assume that he changed classes pretty quickly after that.

The knife lunge is pretty large and has helped me quite a bit, but I know I'm going to be annoyed when I get hit by it. On one match last night, I managed a 4-kill streak, all with the knife, and each one had a huge lunge that helped me.

Leveling gets difficult after level 15~, not "difficult difficult", but it takes slightly longer.

I really dont think its due to them not paying enough attention. I think theyre honestly just limited by our 5 year old consoles at this point.

Oh I totally agree. I was just referring to a specific improvement that IW made to their weapon pipeline, which produced phenomenal weapon models in MW2. Since Treyarch isn't using that engine, they haven't benefited from that particular improvement, which is why the models aren't as nice as they were in MW2.

That said, I don't care. Sure, MW's models looked good, but that's not at all to say BO's look bad. I honestly don't understand the few complaints about BO's graphics. I consider myself a graphics whore and I think the game looks great. The maps look every bit as good to me as MW2, and the weapons are only marginally worse. It's certainly not what I'm thinking about when I'm playing the game.

Given the game's excellent map design, perfectly balanced perks, killstreak nerfing, and balanced weapons, I couldn't be happier!! My brand of Call of Duty is back - it's been gone since COD4 and I've missed it.

After playing MP last night, I have to say that it is an improvement over MW2, a lot of issues in MW2 have been fixed as some people have mentioned above. However, I don't find the game to be 'amazing' so far, probably over-hyped like everything else. The graphics are definitely subpar, a whole step down subpar and the game feels very unpolished. Not sure if their netcoding is a problem or what but some firefights do not feel smooth at all.

I do like the slower pace of the game because I think MW2 was too quick, I also like how you can't chain kill streaks together though now you really have to earn the higher kill streaks. I enjoy the credit system because you can pick and choose what you want, I find that I have a ton of money since I only spent it on some attachments for the M16, MP5K, and FAMAS.

Also, averaging 10k exp per TDM game so far.

I also think this game fixed everything about MW2 that I hated. The dual wielding shotgun bullshit, snipers quickscoping non-stop, commando knifing, n00b tube whoring, all that is pretty much non-existant anymore and I love it.
I like the maps as well though as peritus noted if the teams get scattered, you can spawn in front of enemies a lot. It's not NEARLY as bad as W@W was where you'd constantly spawn in front of enemies.
I just really wish the stats was up on the website somewhere (if they are I can't find it). That's one thing I like about Reach was being able to check my stats while I'm at work.

there is no way you played single player and said it looks like a first gen 360 game...

the graphics and detail in the campaign mode were pretty amazing pretty much the whole game.

Actually thats exactly what Im saying..
I'm sorry normally I buy CoDs on PC and run them on my SLI monster PC..
the only reason I didnt this time is I switched my preorder to 360 in the store after the reports of massive issues with the PC port.

Now the last top notch game I bought on the 360 was Halo reach and it looks 100x better than this game in both MP and SP.

To me its almost distracting how low of detail it is compared to MW2 on my PC and the models and environments both are showing the age of the console and the age of the engine itself.

as for gameplay..

wow they actually brought back the gay ass prone jumpers? really?
hit boxes seemed really bad in MP.. made it to level 6 before getting frustarted with the MP game.
the story and game mechanics made me want to turn it off during the first mission in cuba.. TV was more entertaining at that point for me..

that has never happened to me before..
I literally usually play straight through in 1 sitting.

All in all I feel I wasted my money and maybe should have waited for the PC port problems to be fixed..
even then the movies on you tube even on monster machines still looks like crap even compared to MW2.

if i remember the right part, is that where the AI teammates keep telling you 'their in the trenches' or something like that? if so, that part was a big PITA and i remembered thinking 'i would hate to be playing this part on veteran'.

AI in this game was all over the place. kind of matches the all over the place story.

Yep, that's the level.

I was just reading metacritic and laughing my ass off at the MW2 lovers hating on the game because there is no commando pro, no stopping power, no danger close, LMAO. This game is a pure shooter, something that has been missing in the CoD series, for a while.
