Ya he confirmed no dedicated servers at all, that we will have to rely completely on IWNET

If I was a component manufacturer I would get on board with the backlash thats occuring to IW if this direction is where game developers are heading there will be alot of folks that quit gaming all together no reason to upgrade a system when you get the same locked content as a console. I dont need a 4000.00 web and email browser.

They just ruined the best advantage that PC offered over Xbox, admin'd dedicated servers... now I'll be forced to play with all the grenade-spamming, noob-tubing, bunny hopping noobs.

Oh well, it's not like I was expecting CoD MP to be that great anyways. I'll probably just wait until the price drops so I can play the SP campaign.

This is what I've been saying for a long time. Nvidia and ATI need to have a talk with IW.

I'm thinking COD:MW2 is going to be one of the most pirated games of all time.

"With Call of Duty 2, we were dead set against it being World War II," Zampella said. "But Activision really wanted it, the compromise sort of being that we'd get some dev kits for consoles in exchange for doing a World War II game. We always wanted to be on consoles and Activision saw us as more of a PC developer."

Looks like they got what they wanted.

Remember when that big patch for CoD4 came out a few months after release with extra maps, etc? The XBox players were charged a fee for the patch and IW was planning on doing the same for PC users, but nVidia stepped up and sponsored the patch so we got it for free. This kind of thing seems to be on the manufacturer's minds, let's hope they act on it this time. nV got big props from the PC community for that move, I wonder if it ever translated to sales?

If they implement a friends list with a party system no harm, no foul. as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, that's a reasonable replacement for a dedicated server, right? Idiot.

Right, cause as long as we can play with our friends on a randomly selected 150 ping server, that's all that matters.

I got CoD4 bundled with a video card, played it once and thought it was 3 steps back from the previous games (the original is still my favorite shooter) and sold it. I never planned on purchasing MW2, and I still think this is a BS move.

lol @ petitions, the only time any developer will care about your petition is when they run out of toilet paper. Every one of them will listen to a drop in sales.

Less features for a higher price. Way to go Infinity Ward. Thanks for getting on the bandwagon of abandoning the PC gamer.
When IW screws over the PC gamer, things are really getting bad.

ATI and nVidia should start putting pressure on the devs to enhance development for the PC. Who needs graphics cards if the PC offers nothing more than a console. Just buy an XBox for games and a netbook to surf the net. Maybe nVidia is right to emphasize GPGPU computing. PC gaming may in fact be on its last gasp.

Not having dedicated servers is a huge technological step backwards. It is the opposite of innovation. They might as well put the game on floppies and use dial up while they're at it.

Are they really no dedicated servers, or are they none in the classic form of having a server browser with a bunch of servers up?

Although internet connections have gotten a lot faster, I'm not sure the average one is able to host a 16-32 player game. So I don't think it makes any sense for them to just have every game be a lagfest when the effort involved in creating the dedicated server binaries can't be that much.

That's why I'm thinking it could be something like L4D matchmaking with IW dedicated servers. Still don't know why they don't allow players to supplement that (like L4D), but we'll see.

If that's the case, they could have brought this information out much better. Instead you having everything going nuts with rumors due to the lack of information coming from them on this new IWnet.

Or yeah, go ahead and pirate it. That way next time around we won't have to worry about this because the game won't even come to PC. I'll take a "port" over nothing.

This is enough for me not to buy it now, I really hate the matchmaking service you're forced to use in console games. I never understood why console players put up with it, I figure they're either lazy or just have never used anything better.

The article states, "In a webcast this morning, Robert Bowling revealed the existence of IWNet, a matchmaking service Infinity Ward will operate beginning with Modern Warfare 2. But it ends dedicated servers, and fundamentally changes the culture of the game's PC community."

The issue I have with this is that its taking away my choice to play in whatever server I choose, with the people I choose to play with. For me what this sounds like is using the "Play Online Now" feature in BF2 that randomly dropped you in a server. I've played many games where a "matchmaking service" has put me in games with people "around my skill level", but really how accurate is that? Plus, I'm not seeing what the true benefit for IW is in doing this. I would think that with the 14k + Dedi's up right now, that IW gets a piece of that because you have to purchase either the game itself or at least a small portion in order to run a Dedi.

If IW feels that they can make the decision that this is what's best for me, then I will make the choice best choice for me not to buy their game.

I hate this idea. I want my controllable servers. I want to kick smaktards out for violating rules. I like the feel of using different rules on other servers (No noobtubes, last stand, etc). I love the custom maps!

Ok, so what is so great about dedicated servers? Excuse my ignorance please.

Also, I was going to buy this when the price dropped, but I may just skip it and buy Bad Company and pick this off the bin 2 years from now...if at all.
