How come the steam one is being released 2 days after?

We are paying more money for an product missing several features that are generally considered an advantage of PC gaming. It is just too bad that console gaming has taken over the market so much that a franchise developed for the PC has basically abandoned it. I support those who are protesting and boycotting the game, but I dont think it will do any good. If IW cared about PC gamers, they would not have done away with dedicated servers in the first place. I basically see IW's explainations for doing this as rationalizations and excuses. How hard can it be to click on a server on a list and click "join game"?? I really don't see any legitimate advantages to the system they are implementing. I have played games on the PC with both matchmaking and dedicated server lobbys, and I never used matchmaking.

I'm afraid that is what this mess is all about. IW and activision making more money off DLC. All that crap we're hearing from 402 is just spin and damage control.

I wouldn't be suprised if Activision comes up with a patch (later) that allows dedicated server browsing after they see all the negative feedback....And if they don't, some genius coder will get around all the matchmaking bullcrap and make another way to access dedicated servers (As long as someone creates them)

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not crossing MW2 off my list just because of the stupid matchmaking. Let's see first how it will work.

Learnt he issues please.

Upload speed is a non-issue. Latency and TCP/IP Pause is.

So why is it impossible for a user's connection to provide a decent server for, say, 16 players?

I really am curious what the limitation is and how what hosting companies are offering is different technically to what a consumer can buy from a provider.

Troll moar.

Not everyone has your specific needs.

Don't act too terribly shocked when COD:MW3 doesn't even come out on the PC in the first place, then. The PC version of COD4:MW supposedly only sold 10-15% of what the console version did, and there was evidence of massive piracy. An effective boycott of COD:MW2 combined with huge piracy of it would probably kill the series on PC completely.

I tend to agree that dropping dedicated servers was something of a dumb move, but cutting off your nose to spite your face is completely self-defeating behavior.

I'm confused. Is IW selling a cure for cancer that I badly need to survive until tomorrow or are they selling a computer game? Because I was under the impression it was a computer game, the loss of which would effect my life in barely marginal ways but your dire warning seems to suggest it was the former.

Who cares about the platform being saved? If this is what you have to look forward to in order to "save" the platform from apparent death, I for one choose a mercy killing instead. At any rate, I will survive just fine regardless.

I think this thread + Borderlands thread makes it very obvious that the thing killing PC gaming is PC gamers. You guys can bitch like champs.

sorry, it's quite the opposite. the 'roll me over and violate my anus' generation of console gamers is what's killing PC gaming (and gaming as a whole, really). the PC gamers are just the only one general group that will take a stand against it.

things have been done the same way for years upon years. things take a turn for the worse in the last couple years, and we're the ones who are the bad guys for being able to say it didn't used to be like this.

but whatever, play your five minute random halo matches, watch your eighty minute plotless films, drive your crappy chevrolet. ride the blind consumerist bomb all the way to the ground there, slim pickens.

Before you hate on this system, you have to try it and be objective.

Literally, everyone of you who is up and arms over it is not being objective.

There's the problem, and the crying. It IS childish.
Let's be clear. I don't care if the gaming community is "bifurcated". In fact I prefer playing with a much more mature PC builder/gamer crowd than the sub-20 yr old console crowd any day. On top of that, I play on only strictly enforced zero-tolerance rules based servers. Admins play and if they catch even one whiff of a hacker or cheater, it's auto-ban pronto. Finally, I don't play FPS on ANY server with a ping over 60, period. Call me spoiled, but I have 20 mb/sec FIOS service that I pay $100+/month for, primarily for gaming. I absolutely will not tolerate the high pings associated with non-dedicated servers.

/End rant

And boy has this PC community shown its maturity through this and the earlier Left 4 Dead 2 boycott.

I haven't been able to read the word 'InfinityWard' without an expletive preceding it for several days now.

More than ironic is that the same posts usually rag on anyone who plays a console game as a foulmouthed prepubescent sailor.

At this point I have nothing left to say but "Get over it. Let people enjoy the game if they please, purchase another if you want but InfinityWard doesn't owe you anything more than you owe them."

Perhaps if this PC community didn't react like a belligerent child InfinityWard would have been more engaged during development with it.

I'm buying the game for PC. Hope to see some good spirited gameplay online.

Hmm, no mods, no dedicated server, no free maps, and no way to resell the game = no sale for me.

Infinity Ward is taking the hard nosed approach with this game. It is Steam only now as far as I can tell, even for retail boxed copies.

All PC versions of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be powered by Steamworks, providing gamers with auto-updating, anti-cheat technology, Steam Achievements, and the recently introduced Steam Cloud.

I don't agree with what they are doing, but I'm still buying it. I haven't really played any FPS games online lately, except for LAN with my friend. I'm not going to miss out on a good story fun SP, and fun LAN play (especially with the addition of Co-Op modes) just because of this.

Does anyone know if they ship preorders so you receive the game the day of release, or is it a few days later?

Because dang it, after next week I'll be laid off and I want MW2 on release day.

I only tried preordering something once (GTAIV). I ordered it from Amazon and on release I got an email saying they didn't have a copy for me. They didn't ship it for 3-4 days after. I just mailed it back and made them pay shipping.

Amazon supposedly does this. I don't know of anyone else that does.

Anyone know if IWNet will allow two people who own MW2 to play from the same IP and in the same game?

Damn, the one game I play a lot of multiplayer on and they go ahead and fawk it up.

First Empire total war comes out as a bug ridden POS, now Modern Warfare comes out as half-assed multiplayer port. FAWK IM SO PISSED. I feel like a 10 year old wanting to throw a fit.

How are we going to find clan members? I never used this shit before.
