April 29, 2010 - According to a report from VentureBeat, the next Call of Duty title developed by Treyarch will be set in the Vietnam era. Persistent rumors over the past year suggested the game, set for release in 2010, has shifted away from the traditional World War II setting.

The report claims the game is titled Call of Duty: Vietnam; however than might not exactly be the final name as we have yet to see a game in the series with its location in the title.

"Tomorrow you will see a teaser for this year's Call of Duty game," said Thomas Tippl, chief operating officer of Activision Publishing, in the report. "Treyarch is working on it and taking the Call of Duty franchise to the next level."

Activision declined to comment on the report. The teaser trailer is set for debut on Friday at 12:40 AM EST on Spike TV.

No one has ever done a good Vietnam game (imho)...it will be interesting if they pull it off and stay accurate to how the war went down.

I thought the Vietnam fad was over? BF: Vietnam was not bad, but I think I was one of the few that liked it. Anything with the CoD name will be a mindless nade fest, so I am guessing that at least now they do not have a nade launcher for their M16A1?

Our clan runs a Vietnam mod for cod5, it is pretty well done. I don't care for it, too much foliage for me. Everyone just hides and waits for you to go by.

I remember playing Tour of Duty. An obscure HL mod that never got off the ground. I thought it was good fun.

This ought to be interesting

Korea gets no love. Completely untouched material there. US v China? Come on now. You even get to put your favorite WW2 characters into the story as higher ranked troops.

I'm all for this too though. WW2 European theater has been done over a billion times. Hit it up again next generation of graphics.

Did you ever play Vietcong? That's the only Vietnam game that captured the mood for me.

I guess Korea doesn't get much love is because all the weapons are essentially World War 2...I guess it's more fun shooting scripted Nazis than it would be to shoot hordes of Chinese in open ended gameplay...at least that's what the developers would have us believe.

But Korea did have some new weapons introduced en masse. The Chinese had the AK-47, the Americans had new tanks, arty, the M2 Carbine which was an automatic and arguably America's first assault rifle. If Treyarch wanted to get creative they could feature some prototype assault rifles being "tested" in Korea by fabrique nacional (British SAS using STG49s or w/e).

It's just going to be Modern Warfare with a Vietnam skin. There's zero reason for them to shake it up since the way they are is selling so well. I don't need to play the same game 4 times over.

I hope they do this. I'd like to see them completely remove grenade launcher attachments. They'll still have grenade launchers, but only in the form of the M79.

Unfortunately, the M203 was introduced before the end of the Vietnam war, so they may be included anyway. But I hope not.

[q]The game, which is being developed by Call of Duty 3 and World at War creators Treyarch, has also had a number of in-game locations confirmed. UK retailer GAME states that the action will take place in Cuba, the Arctic and Vietnam.[/q]

So what time period is this going to be?

Dont know now. Im thinking most of it is going to be fictional instead of a true Vietnam war game due to the name actually being Black Ops.

I love VietCong and Fist Alpha.
Finished both many times. They are not easy but once you get going they are hard to put down.
I actually finished VietCong II also. You first play as an American then as a Vietnamese.
VCII wasn't as good as VietCong though.
I make sure I install VietCong and all it's patches with every format.
Works good on Vista64.
I would buy a Call Of Duty based on the Vietnam war right away

Well the title isn't CoD Vietnam, it's Black Ops.

But if it's Cold War Spec Ops...that'd be pretty hawt.

The name is Mac, Baller Mac.
