I soiled myself when I saw the new trailer. Their series of explosions and random utterings is already a better plot than modern warfare 2. MP will be standard call of duty fare, but with dedicated servers.

Michael Bay movies have a more coherent plot than MW2.

This. I remember when the game released how much the M60 OWNED then they nerfed it in like the first big patch and you couldnt hit the broadside of a barn with it :-\

Yeah - thsoe were good times. Best sniper rifle ever! Being able to use the LAW as well helped.

I have hopes that it will be a decent game and that they have enough time to learn/adjust from the lessons learned with COD:MW2

this game looks epic! I hope they make it bloody and gory as mw2 has no gore and minimal blood.

Btw, Activision are the dbags behind pricing so they will probably make this $60 for the PC as well.

BC2, by EA, was appropriately priced @ $50 upon release.

Yeah, it's already listed for $59.99 preorder at Amazon for all 3 platforms:

That said, the trailer does look very good and if the game has dedicated servers I'll probably just fork over the $60 for it.

I thought the trailer was pretty cool, and I love studying the Cold War conflict, so I'm thinking I might pick this up.

What's interesting is that they say "everything you know is wrong" and then there is a scene where a hologram of a gun is blacked out by sharpie ink as it appears.

I'm guessing that the Steyer and other "70's" guns may appear in this game even if it takes place in the '60's under the pretense of being "government controlled prototypes" or something...

Eh, I was able to pre-order MW2 from Walmart as a gift for a friend for around $42. Watch for pre-order specials.

Well, I know people go ga-ga over MWx single player stuff, but I never finished the one in COD4, even after returning to it several times. And this preview looks like all single player stuff.

I'm all about the multi-player. I won't get excited until I hear there is something new in the multi arena, like maybe controllable vehicles, or larger maps.

They already confirmed dedicated servers for the PC version of this game. Let's hope they don't renege on that statement.

It was a soul crushing day when robert bowling let slip the fact that there were no dedicated servers for mw2 on bash and slash.

Recent highlights from a thread over at NVNews:

Singleplayer

* Vietnam is just a small part of the story. The games story is set across a large period of time.
* Some of the singleplayer maps are based on multiplayer maps, which is usually the other way around.
* In some missions you have the option to move in stealthily or go in guns blazing.
* The enemy AI is smarter. They will now try to dodge if you aim at them.

Multiplayer

* Multiplayer has been in development from day one.
* Lean is back!
* Vehicles will be returning.
* Create-A-Class 2.0 includes deep customization and new features.
* The game will include a "barebones" game mode.
1. As the name implies, there won't be any perks or killstreaks, just old school gameplay.
* Many familiar weapons will be making a return, including the AK-47.
* The region filter is back.
* Improved matchmaking and server browser.
* Modern Warfare 2's host migration will be included.
* Auto-Aim can be turned on/off.
* PC gamers will be able to enjoy the comfort and luxury of dedicated servers.
* The PC version will have an anti-cheat software, but it's unknown if it's Punkbuster.
* There will be support for the competitive community, which will include great tools.
* The team focusing on the multiplayer aspect of the game is twice the size (World at War).

Co-op Mode

* There will be 2-4 player co-op.
* Supports 2 player offline split-screen.
* It won't be based on the singleplayer campaign.
* Zombies might be making a return from World at War.

Miscellaneous

* The game engine is a heavily modified version of the IW engine which was used in World at War.
* The game runs at 60 FPS!
* Physics destruction is going to be limited, so no Battlefield Bad Company 2 style "blow holes in the walls" gameplay.
* The PC version will look better than the console versions (duh).
* There are over 200 people working on Black Ops!

10.7 Million Units Pre-Sold for Black Ops
Source

The game will only support DX9 no DX10 or 11

Just like all past cod based games which still uses a heavily modified Q3 engine.

Feedback from a recent COD : BO community event:

http://joshpeckler.net/2010/06/12/call-of-duty-black-ops-community-first-look-event/

Snippet:

PC
Lets talk PC multiplayer a bit more than I already did. The PC team is the same PC team from World at War, and all platforms are being developed side by side, with only the assets being ported over, not the game itself. First off, as always, there were not a lot of answers to our questions as this was a SP event. As I mentioned in a previous news post, there are dedicated servers, as to their nature, whether or not they are like the World at War servers where we got the files, or whether or not they are to be like DICE’s Bad Company 2 where the servers have to be rented from a Trusted GSP. Treyarch have mentioned that there will be an improved server browser from that of World at War, that’s a good thing in my book, cause that server browser was… odd to say the least. They also confirmed that there will be an anti-cheat of some sort, no word on which yet, but that there will be (basically what I think this means is that, when MW2 was made, Activision may have made an agreement with Valve to use Steam and VAC together for subsequent CoD titles, but I could be wrong. For those of you so persistant in the community about MOD TOOLS, let me explain why they haven’t given us an answer… basically it’s this: if they were to say mod tools now and then down the line before release, higher ups tell them not to, we’d all be pissed as hell; also mod tools require a new development team, which means one of two things, either pulling people from working on the game proper, or spending more money and hiring a new team (the latter usually doesn’t happen)… So next time you ask me why they haven’t announced mod tools, it’s because they don’t want to either let you down, or take away development strength from the game.

I asked about patching the game and praised the support from them during World at War and how, even though MW2 had come out in November, they still patched WaW and it made it near perfect (in my mind anyhow). Anyhow when I asked about free DLC and patches for the PC, I received this comment from Mark Lamia, “Cesar’s (@pcdev) job is to produce a bug free game as far as I’m concerned,” but it’s safe to assume we’ll get patches, free DLC on the other hand may have gone the way of the Dodo.
