Cingular sucks in LA and a bit better in Bay area. yesterday spent an hour on hold with customer service, when someone tried to call me got a message: "number no longer in service" , outgoing call were just fine.:disgust:
I'm paying for service, but not for that kind.

I called again today and said that I was thinking of switching to AT&T's Network special plan... They offered me the normal 500 anytime free roaming and long distance in US, 3600 NW --- and as bonuses: 1st incoming minute free and $10 off my $50 bill for a year... No new contract necessary. It sounded good but she couldn't budge on the 9:00 nights and weekends -- I really wanted to keep the 8:00 that I have now... She said she'll leave a note on my account so that I have 7 days to decide... I have to figure out how much I'm going to lose by not having 8:00 NW (60 minutes 8 times is practically all of my anytime minutes). We'll see -- maybe if I can get, like, 250 bonus minutes a month or something -- then I'd switch. I'll call back later.

yep, it works.. kinda.. complained today about how the service sucks (also in LA)... and since I'm on a family plan I got this month and the next two months credited back (so 14.99 x 3 mos). Didn't want to change the plan because they don't offer unlimited mobile-to-mobile and text-messaging any longer. Oh and if you haven't tried it yet, you can text message across services now.. albeit somewhat limited and slower, but it works! (YMMV on that)

the rep leaving notes in a account is not legal binding...rep does not have to follow notes directions if they are wrong/messed up/etc...it can help persuade rep though...i used to work for a mobile phone company...

SUCCESS!!!! I called again today (7 days after last time) and told them that I needed more anytime minutes, and that I didn't really care about the National Roaming -- just roaming in CA. They put me on the 49.99 650 Peak, 3500 OP plan with no roaming in CA/NV/WA/ID --AND they gave me $10 off my bill each month for 6 months, first incoming minute free for 3 months, free Extended Voicemail for 3 months (can get messages from landline), and no long distance in US. I'm happy. 800 peak, 3500 off peak, 10 bucks less a month. No contract. Can swith it again whenever I feel like it.

Also, look at their nationwide plans. On most plans, they are CHEAPER than regional plans and they're almost the same price as the local plans. For example, for Illinois:

HOME 250 min + 3500 NW costs $29.99
REGIONAL 250 min + 3500 NW costs $35.00
NATIONAL 250 min + 3500 NW costs $29.99

National plan costs same as the Home plan and is cheaper than the Regional plan. Home/Regional plans vary by region, but you get the idea. Just check out their web site:
