My friends have Cingular and I hate it when they borrow my phone to make a call and use up my minutes. I have AT&T and I think it is the best here in SoCal.

Hey . what kinda complaining did you do??? I complained to Cingular once and they just shrugged it off.
I ALWAYS get freakin system busy where i'm at. Try and make a call anytime from like 5PM to even 1AM and it'll take around 30 minutes till you get through. I don't understand with crap coverage like that how they can freakin set up 3 stands at the local mall to sign more people up. Greedy Cingular-- :disgust:

You can't just complain, you gotta tell them you want to cancel, then see if they offer you anything better.

There've been threads for sprint and now cingular. Has anybody tried getting better deals for Verizon?

Im surprised this thread wasn't locked. This is not really a deal, more of a abuse.

well, the csrs are allowed to give minutes/higher plans away at their discretion. its not really an abuse. most people aren't aware of this.

Thanks!

Just upped to 350 from 120 anytime , and now have nationwide no roaming instead of the regional plan. All this plus free text messages at the same price of 29.99/mo. My N&W will start at 9, but I think I'll call back in a month and see if I can get that changed back to 8...or get some more anytime minutes or something.

I am in Rhode Island. Cingular is fine here, never had a dropped call or not been allowed to make a call.

About the upgrade though, any of you tried getting it even though you are under contract, and can't leave?

I honestly don't think I'll cancel my Cingular service. It's just too good of a deal for me to give up. I'm paying for two phones. Here is my plan:

$40+$10 x 2
300min anytime
unlimited nights/weekends (starts at 8pm, ends at 8am)
unlimited text messaging
unlimited long distance
free roaming (CA/NV)

I live in San Diego and work in up San Francisco on the weekdays. I use about 3000 M2M minutes per month and I need to call nationally all the time. Even though sometimes I have to redial like 10x, I can't find another service with the same features or better with the same price. Also can't find another service that will let me use my Nokia 8890s

EDIT: cool I just called Cingular and they took off $10 ea. month for ea. phone line for the next year plus first incoming call for free as long as I agreed to a 1 year contract. I should have called a long time ago (I signed up in like 6/2000) as I have been off of contract for quite a while. Works out for me. Thanks (editted, I don't want to get the nice girl who hooked me up in trouble)!

Thanks for the heads up guys.
I've just called Cingular up to ask them what they can offer me. I emphasized that I am no longer on a contract (my contract expired on Feb 26, 2002 and I have been with them since Feb 2000) with them.

Here is what I used to have on my old home plan,

150min anytime
unlimited test messaging
300 interactive messaging.
unlimited nights/weekends (8 pm to 7 am)
free roaming in CA, NV
all these shared between two phones.
$29.99 + $14.99 each month on two phones.

After I called, as long as I agree to a 1 year contract, they let me keep what I currently have and added the following few extra bonus:

150min anytime (total 300 now)
nation wide long distance
first in coming minute free
all these shared between two phones.
$5 off each month for each phone for the next 6 months.

All these were done in 30 min. with this nice female CSR. Her name was deleted. She tried her best to offer me what she can offer w/o losing what I've already had and I am very satisfied . I don't think i can get such a good offer anywhere else.

Oh, I forgot to ask her whether of not my home area has been changed to include WA and ID. I guess I am going to call her up to inquire that tomorrow.

Edit: I took Dongtran's advice and deleted the name of the wondeful CSR.

i think i'll do this tomorrow, my coverage sucks and it needs to be adjusted, my current plan is good though, but more minutes would be nice, right now i'm at
350 anytime
free nights and weekends
free long distance
free caller id, call waiting and voice mail,

not bad for $35 a month, IF the coverage was halfway decent

I've got the 1300min plus unlimited night and weekends fo $99.99/mo. Voicestream has 3000 anytime minutes within the region(I make most of my calls in region). I called cingular to see what they could do and the CSR said only a phone upgrade and then offered to cancel my service. What an ahole--however he did get his wish--I'm going to Voicestream.

I like VoiceStream's plan here. All over Iowa, totally unlimited (no time restrictions), free in-state long distance. $35 a month. And the coverage is pretty darn good. Now if I could just get this new Nokia unlocked (damn Cingular).

Cingular in Davis has piss poor reception. Not all that much better in the Bay Area. Only place I get decent reception is on the freeways, guess it's a good thing I do a lot of driving.

I tried, but they only gave me 100 bonus minutes -- that I'll never use. I don't want to change plans, but I really want $10 off my bill for 6 months -- I'm paying 50.... Any ideas? I'm out of contract, and in los angeles (terrible service).

thanks.

btw, my plan is:
500 peak
unlim nights, weekends (8:00), mobile to mobile, text messaging, long distance... 50 a month. I'm on month to month now.

I'm not sure that it is such a good idea to list the person's name and/or extension here - in fact the girl that gave me my deal specifically asked me to exclude her name and extension from any posting.

Instead try the following:
If they give you a good deal, ask to talk to their supervisor, and tell their supervisor how wonderful your CSR was to you. Then ask their supervisor for a mailing address so that you can send a thank you card - for every little card or something like that a CSR receives, they get a $25 gift certificate from the company. In my opinion, that's the LEAST I could do - my CSR saved me $10 for each of my 4 phone lines, that's $480 a year. A $3 card, a 34 cent stamp, and 5 minutes of my time is nothing compared to that.....
