Calling all 8800GS and 9600GSO owners

Trying to find out which brands can and can't be unlocked. I've been scouring the web and haven't found many pictures of the bare PCBs without the coolers on. If you own ether a 8800GS or 9600GSO, could you remove the heatsink and see how many RAM chips are on there? You'll have ether 6, or 8. Thanks

All the 8800gs have 6 chips.

EVGA GSO looks interesting because it has dual slot cooler like 8800gts.

You have a link for that? Because if so, that would be most helpful in my search. Then it'd just be the 9600GSO's I'm pursuing.

I have the EVGA 8800gs. If you goto techpowerup forum there's a guy wanting to mod memory chips into his xfx 8800gs because it has 6 chips. There's no physical difference between the superclocked versions. Just a bios and game packages.

EVGA 9600gso is the only one that looks interesting. The bigger heatsink like 8800gts. I highly doubt it though.

The only one that's tested proven isn't in the states. It's in Asia. I highly doubt you'll find anything around here.

I know its the Galaxy 9600GSO Overclock thats been proven. But seeing as how I can't get those here, I figured I might as well check and see if any cards avail in America have 6 mem chips, because if they do, well then

Edit: See they only have 1, and its the PV-T96O-FDF4.

Ah, I see where this is going. Ghost wants to see if the 8800GS/9600GSO can be upgraded into a 8800GTS with the soft-mod.

I'm interested in it too, but I think the guy that got the soft mod to work got lucky. Galaxy probably used old 8800GTS PCBs on their first round of 9600GSO's, or maybe they marketed the chip wrong or something, like those one in a million chance.

There's only 1 model so far, the Asian version of the Galaxy 9600GSO Overclock. The other Galaxy 9600GSO Overclock doesn't unlock.

Yea, these are usually just one company that makes an obscure model like the Sapphire x800gto^2, Gecube(?) x1800gto and evga 7900gto back in the days.

I have a evga superclocked 8800gs (rebranded 9600gso from what i understand). The guy i bought it from told me had two in sli and that the superclocked editions have all 8 chips installed and could possibly be unlocked. I will try to confirm this later by removing the heatsink.
