I searched E-Bay for Star Wars DVD and found a lot of sellers. However most of them look like this picture.

I then came across a seller stating the following:

*** How to tell if the DVD is a pirate copy? Look at the photo. If it says "Digital Cinema Sound" in the bottom right corner, it is a pirate copy. Also, on the bottom left, it will have the Dolby Digital logo and the words "(5.1EX)" as shown in the picture. Pirates put all this extra stuff in to make it look legitimate. But who ever heard of "Digital Cinema Sound"? And there are only a couple dozen DVD titles ever made with DD5.1EX sound. What are the chances that it would be on a movie from Hong Kong?

Any thoughts?

The Star Wars series isn't even released in DVD format here in the USA. In other words, reel.com, amazon, etc. will not have a TRUE picture or information concerning the legitimacy.

Does anybody know if it has been released in another region? It seems the asian and european markets get a lot of the movies sooner...

No, they haven't, there has been a pirated release of a stolen DVD of StarWars. Probably what that is...

I have still yet to find any info on star wars epsiode 4 you showed...I thought maybe it was announced to be released in asia...like ps2 games they get months and months before us...

Isn't episode 4 supposed to be the original Star Wars?

I also remember reading awhile back that it was George Lucas's (spit!) idea to release them in order...episode 1 then 2,3,4,5,&6...I remember cause it sounded like a crap idea since 2 and 3 hadn't even come out meaning full set may not be fully released unitl the year 2006...By that time the media may change and we will be buying new High definition DVD drives and disc and have to buy the first 3 or 4 we bought all over again....ranting done!!

I'm sure the mods have seen it by now. That's quite PG rated (if that) especially compared to the desktop shots in OT.

Cheers!

That digital cinema sound logo in the bottom corner is the same logo on my Sony dvd & reciever, it is a sort of DSP to give a more cinema like sound (basically a bit of reverb) It soesn't have anything to do with the disc. Those DD logos on the front don't look right too. Alot of new DVD's say playstation2 compatible (stupid if you ask me).

Peace

Those DVDs are in fact mastered from the Star Wars - Ultimate Edition laserdiscs.

Leaving aside that they have plenty of additional materials on them, including trailers and documentaries, they are a good investment because they are the ORIGINAL versions of the movies. No Jabba in Episode 4, Han shoots first, no added CGI animation... Just like we saw it in theaters when we were kids!

Whenever Lucas will decide to put those films on DVD, it will be the Special Editions, those souped-up films he re-released in 1995...

So, although those DVD's are bootlegs, they are "good" - excellent quality (great image, and sound matrixed really nicely to 5.1) and a safe investment, especially for hard-cvore fans and collectors.

Actually, I would like to see them release several versions of the movie (like they did with T2 and The Mummy) on DVD. The regular edition could be the newer versions, and the "Ultimate Edition" could have the Original Version as well as the SE Re-releases. That'd make it a much better value, IMO.

And bring back the original box artwork! They were MUCH cooler then the new artwork (although the artwork on the SE's was ok)

Edit: And I just noticed the AT-AT Walkers on the back of the DVD. They weren't in "A New Hope." Neither was Jabba (unless you count the SE's), or Yoda. That alone would keep me from buying it, cause it just looks fake that way

I think that the contents is what matters, not the artwork. The films look really good, the sound is excellent, you have even some extra goodies in there, so what's not to like?

Bythe way, I think the CASE matters more than the artwork - DVD afficionados know what I'm talking about - these Chinese bootlegs have the best cases I've seen so far, even better than the Amarays!

This is your ONLY chance to get the original trilogy on DVD - it will never be done by the studios.

Lucas has repeatedly declared that the original versions of the films will NEVER be put on DVD - as far as he's concerned, the only versions of Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi are those we know as Special editions.
