i do a whole hell of a lot of xbox modding, and for the last few months i have been modding halo maps and game configs. well, the only way i have found to install the new maps (the ones i edited) onto an xbox is to ftp to the drive via smartftp or whatever program you use.
here is the problem...only modded xboxs can be FTPed to easily. i want to make a CD that the xbox will read and then install a file to one of the partitions.
the xbox has 6-7 partitions of the hard drive. c,d,e,f,g,y,z. (g if it is modded, not all the time though...not important anyway). the y drive is a cache drive. when you play halo, it creates 5 cache files.... cache001.map through cache005.map. here is the problem...all of the multiplayer maps use cache003.map and cache004.map.
example: if you open bloodgulch, it uncompresses the file bloodgulch.map (19mb) to cache003.map (48mb) for quicker access. if you play hangemhigh, it changed hangemhigh.map (22mb) to cache004.map (48mb). however, if you then play wizard, it uncompresses that to cache003.map and overwrites bloodgulch.
that isnt really that relevant, but i thought i would thoroughly explain this...
here is what i want to do:
i want to take my version of bloodgulch, which is cache003.map on the f: drive in the uncompressed form and put it on a CD for people with non-modded xboxs to put in their drive and have it write over the original cache003.map on f:.
the xbox uses .xbe's to read from, but .exe = .xbe basically
anyone have any idea how i can put that map in with a few basic commands to write over the original file?
