Inspired by the "Calling all Old Timers" thread.

I understand, by default, this thread isn't likely to get a lot of action.

Let me define some terms here first:

Newb: Anyone with an account that is less than (for the sake of this thread) 5 years old.

Lurker: Anyone with or without an account that never posts (or has a very low post count despite being a registered user for more than 5 years) .

Some topics of conversation:

1. How did you find Anandtech? Did you google directly into a thread here and decide to stick around? Did you come here from the AT front page?

2. What brought you to AT? Was it the social stuff or technical questions?

3. Why do you (or don't you) engage with the forum? Are the regulars... too regular and it feels like an exclusive group of posters or you are more interested in reading than participating? Something else?

or just talk about whatever.

I lurked for a good long time, for years before my account was ever created, and I had (and still have) a fairly low overall post count despite the number of years I've been registered at AT. I came here through the front page back with the front page of AT was the best tech site on the internet, and I got on the forums to argue video cards and GPU tech. Over time, the forums have come to be a huge social outlet for me, as a grown man with a family I can't just go hang out with the guys whenever I want, so I tend to lean on the message boards to fulfill my social needs despite the tech discussion slowing down a lot over the years. Good place to find intelligent discussion and arguments, and if I disagree with something at least its generally well reasoned.

Well, I guess now is as good a time as any to crawl out from under my rock and say hello. I've been coming here almost daily for at least 12 years, and never posted or interacted with a post once. Not sure how I found this place, but something compelled me to bookmark it. Oddly enough it was the L & R forums that led me to register, because it was "Members Only" and I was morbidly curious at what kind of posts I would find there.

So here I am...nobody knows me, yet I feel like I know so many of you. Some I greatly respect and admire, others make me want to destroy my keyboard with my forehead. Regardless, I'm always entertained and I feel like I learn something new every day. Who knows, I might even start posting once in a while. Often I find that I have very little new to add to a discussion, as others have already said things better than I can. But honestly, most of the time I'm just lazy.

Since this is somewhat of an introduction, I should probably share some info. I'm a guy, pushing 50 years, working in the electrical engineering field. Mostly liberal leaning, but I live in a rural part of southern Ontario (Canada) so I'm surrounded by a lot of rednecks, regressive simpletons, and mouth breathing sister fuckers. Maybe that's why I feel so in tune with the topics in the P&N forum...

Anyway, thanks to all of you for making this place an integral part of my day for the last dozen years. Here's to a dozen more!

Yes, that's definitely the AnandTech forums experience.

Aw, don't let a little thing like that stop you!

...believe it or not, I actually don't post every reply I type either, and I've still got this ridiculous post count Just imagine if I hadn't spent a few years away from this place.
But honestly, most of the time I'm just lazy.
Well, that's a legitimate defense too.

I guess I qualify as a lurker . Joined in 2016 .
I came here mainly for the technical posts . Still come here for the same .
I have not posted much as I feel the need post has not risen for me .
The amount of information here is immense and just reading through it occupies my free time .
I will try to contribute more in the future .
Thank you for asking. . Much appreciated .

-Thanks for coming out of the shadows @anky !

We look forward to hearing more from you in the future. Then of course disagreeing with you and then calling you every vile insult under the sun.

But don't take it personally, it's just how we do at AT.

Hmm, I lurked for ~10 years, even though I had an account. Do I get any lurker points? If so, what can I trade them in for?

I used to post here, almost to the point where people knew who I am. Then stopped. Now kind of lurking and occasionally post some words of wisdom.
