I voted no.. I am a 360 fanboi and yes I can admit it (admitting it is the first step).

One of your arguments was that you didn't like paying for xbox live...well, you get what you pay for. Sony's online play will never rival what Microsoft has built. Microsoft puts a lot of the money they receive back into making Xbox live what it is..

I would not buy a PS3 at the current price point. I have yet to see a game worth buying a $600 system for.

Dude, you're forgetting that we're not telling the guy to time travel back a year to pick up an XBOX 360 and games. The fact that it took the XBOX 360 a year to get good games (in your opinion, mind you) is irrelevant as the guy wants to buy a system (and preferably the PS3) now. Also, based on this argument, you're telling him to buy games that won't be out for 3-6 months.

So let me get this through to you, the fact that the XBOX 360 has been out has no relevance at all. Yes, it's a 100% fact that it's been out, no one's arguing with you on that. But the state of both consoles is the current state... we don't CARE if the XBOX 360 didn't have that great of games at the same point in its life like the PS3. What we CARE about is what we can get NOW!

EDIT: And to elaborate further, if the PS3 gets any good games that I want, I will get it THEN (I'm liking that caps bold thing).

thank you. i'm glad someone understands the whole point of this thread.

the OP wants to play games now, not in the future, and not in the past ... just now.

$4 a month is expensive? It would take you nearly 4 years of paying for Xbox live before the Xbox 360 and PS3 prices would even out. Xbox Live is pay to play for a reason...it rocks. The PS3 network sucks at the moment. User friendly it is not. Content sucks. Games are lacking at the moment. The controller doesn't have rumble.

There is only one reason to buy a PS3 at the moment...as a Blu-Ray player. I have no need for Blu-Ray at the moment...so not interest for me. You may be dying for this feature...so that is a personal preference.

In a year or so, I'm sure there will be much more compelling reasons to buy a PS3. Also, they better implement rumble in their controllers...I find that a big deal. I never realized how much that added to the experience until I played motorstorm on the PS3...to me it ads a lot to games.

I'm not going to buy the PS3 until Sony gives me a compelling reason to shell out that kind of money...They certainly have not from my perspective.

You're hilarious, even if your logic is terrible.

How many games do you need to play at one time? Resistance, Motorstorm, and the plethora of 3rd party games are more than enough to hold you over for a few months until the next wave of games come out. How often does someone go out about buy 10 games at the same time as the system itself? You buy a system generally to have over the duration of that generation, not just to play as many games as possible over the next two weeks.

Such short-sighted, simple-minded people.

if you didn't like the xbox360 for it's current line up ... you won't like the PS3 for it's current lineup.

games that are on both Xbox360 and PS3 look better on Xbox360 and have better online play, and that is about 75% of PS3 games.

if you think it's worth $720 to play resistance and motorstorm, go for it ($600 + $60 + $60). otherwise, you should atleast wait it out for the games, because there really isn't much.

the online system on PS3 is a joke at the moment as well. and i find it funny that you have problems paying $3.85/month ($50 for 13 months) for the xbox live service that allows you to play any game online with very simple ease, yet you would spend $600 on a PS3 and pay more than $10/mo to play just 1 single game.

You're comparing launch games to games for a system that's been out a year. This is a marathon, not a sprint - anyone with half a brain knows that the PS3 is more powerful, and games will eventually look better. And you're completely wrong about the PS3 online system being a "joke".

why is it more powerful?

if he really thinks it's worth $600 to play a generic, average FPS on a PS3, or a racing game that is pretty cool and is getting decent reviews, more power to him.

but as everyone knows, even if they don't want to admit it, neither of those games are worth the $600 entry price.

Well we won the big one along with Call of Duty3 and the Ultimate Alliance and my stepson played it once and went back to playing his Wii. We just use it for a Blu-Ray player and that's it. If I had to pay for it I never would have gotten it but then I'm not a Gamer. If I could get a good Blu Ray Player for less than I could sell this unit for it would be gone in a heart beat.

Already had a wii and wasn't impressed with line up of games. The wii was awsome just wasnt big on the games.

It has been worth it to me... I have Madden 07, RFOM, F1 Championship Racing, and Motorstorm. I download Tekken 5 and FlOw.

Most of my friends are on PS3 or will get a PS3 so it made more sense for me to get a PS3.

Off topic: With the Live subscription, will I be able to play MMORPGs with no extra cost? I never got into WoW or any of the others on PC because I thought it was stupid to pay $10/mo to play one game.

Likely some online MMORPG's will have additional costs associated...same on PS3.

No. MMORPGs are on their own fees. You do not need XBOX Live Gold to play these online, either.

I haven't turned my PS3 on since Dec 26th. No games yet that I want outside of Resistance. I'll pick up Motorstorm at Blockbuster in a week or two. Looking forward to that.

czar, what? What kind of a question is that? That's like asking "why is the xbox more powerful than the ps2?" It just is....

purbeast0, have you played Resistance? Hardly a generic, average FPS. Also, you keep harping on $600 - I paid $660 and got the system, 4 controllers, and 2 games. The base system is a much better value than the 60GB system.

I'm done arguing with you guys. AT has become so ridiculously anti-sony-anything lately, its not even worth the time.

I'm a big Sony fan when it comes to consoles because of the genre of games on the platform (RPGs), but even if I liked different genres more, there is absolutely no reason to get a PS3 right now besides Blu-Ray.

When i had my 360 Final Fantasy mmo had just came out and you still had to pay the monthly fee for the game.

I'm pretty sure you have to pay to play FF and the PSO game. I don't play MMORPG's at all though so I can't tell you how that service is.

I do know though that you don't need xbox live to play those MMORPG games.

Sony is all about waiting and the future at this moment. 360 is all about playing great games off and online.

yes I've played Resistance and I've played motorstorm. Those are the only two games I've played on PS3, and I've also seen the online system as well.

and yes, i already knew you had bought a PS3 by your stance in defending your reason for spending $600+ on it.

The point still remains the same...$500 for a system that only has two reasonable good games on it is waste. It would be better for him to wait a year or so until those good games come out...then buy one for what will likely be a cheaper price.

The only compelling reason to buy one right now is for a Blue Ray player...but he hasn't once mentioned that has a feature that interests him.

Did some quick looking and here is what i see:

ps3 60 gig : $600 - wal-mart discount

xbox 360 : $399 + 88 for wifi + 200 for HD = 687 - wal-mart discount

If I was going to get a 360 i would prob wait since rev 2 is around the corner which i think will cost 420ish if I remember right not including HD or wifi

speaking of short-sighted, what happens when very few a-list games are released because no one buys the damn console? then you're left with a $600 console that can play a few games and some glorified dvds.

Yeah, don't forget free, restricted, limited use version of the Sims with purchase of a PS3.

No. The current MMO available on a next-gen system is Phantasy Star Online (although it's only a quasi-MMO). You currently have to set up a pay schedule for it via the X360 dashboard.

One of the rules of arguments, whoever stoops to degrading the other person's character already admits defeat.

There is, in fact, absolutely nothing wrong with my logic. If there is, by chance, why don't you point something out that is logically wrong.

You see, this is a topic about purchasing a PS3 now and whether or not it's a good idea. You came on the defensive when people started trashing the PS3's less-than-stellar amount of quality games by saying that it took awhile for the XBOX 360 to have a decent amount of good games as well. Now, see... the problem is you're not necessarily wrong with that statement. Although the idea of a "quality game" is partly relative, the real issue comes when we go back to the topic "purchasing a PS3 now and whether or not it's a good idea." "Now" doesn't warrant looking at the XBOX 360's prior states.

I believe what some people are trying to say is that the PS3 doesn't offer too much in games that you can't get elsewhere (note that this does not mean exclusivity of games) and that it may be a better idea to wait. There's no where in my post that I mentioned anything about buying an XBOX 360 instead or anything like that.

We aren't the one holding the PS3 on a pedestal when it doesn't necessarily offer much in the area of discussion... yet we're simple-minded? We aren't the one who's looking to the past to justify the current state of a console... that's even worse than being short-sighted, that's an unjustified hind-sight.
