My wife and I will soon be spending four days in San Diego. We both have been there several times, and we have pretty much done the whole tourist thing. I was wondering if some locals could chime in with some ideas on things to do, places to go, things to see, good bars/restaurants, etc. Basically, what still interests you as a local when you just want to relax and have a good time?

We're willing to go as far north as Oceanside, and as far south as Tijuana. And while we're both partial to being as close to the beach as possible, traveling a bit inland is not out of the question. TIA!

Don't waste your time in Tijuana.

I like Encinitas, lots of good restaurants, Carlsbad is also nice. Del Mar is also very nice. When are you coming? Weather is cold and rainy right now and the highs all week are going to be in the low 60s. Starting this Saturday we're supposed to get 5 more days of rain.

Beaches will be freezing cold.

when do you plan to visit and what kind of social scene are you most comfortable with? for example i could put you with the somewhat younger group at pizza port or dini's but if thats not your scene then the somewhat older-but-doesnt-mind-loud-live-music at a place like coyotes in carlsbad.

I'd suggest staying out of Mexico right now - if you really want to, though, Rosarito is (was?) a nicer place to visit than Tijuana.

My favorite SD attraction thus far has been USS Midway. Old Town is good for an afternoon.

We'll be there from 2/13 AM until 2/16 PM. I sure hope the weather clears up. The 7-day forecast doesn't look so hot. That's just our luck...

Oh well, better than the snow we're getting here!

We're both in our early 30s, so that Coyote's in Carlsbad sounds right up our alley.

i wouldnt be too concerned about the forecast for this weekend. ive lived here my whole life and ive found that the meteorologists and weathermen here might as well be throwing darts on a board filled with post-it weather predictions for this time of year. ill try and chip in later with some more suggestions, im a little tied up at the moment so cant be of much help at the moment but hopefully other san diego members here pick up the slack.

and i know ive mentioned it before but everytime i see the username and the signature all i can hear in my head is :music: throw your hands in the aiiirrrrr/and wave em' like you just dont care... :music:

I kind of like the downtown area, Seaport Village and the Gaslamp but I haven't been down there in probably a year or so...well, with the exception of a game at Petco Park (which is very nice BTW-Go Padres!!!).

not to mention all the sick runoff. I would stay away from most beaches for the next couple weeks.

I saw a lot less lifted trucks than what you can see regularly in Utah. In fact, I saw more lifted trucks during my commute this morning than I did the whole time in Cali. Also, I only saw one person wearing their hat backwards. Maybe I'm missing something here...

The lifted truck thing has sorta died here in san diego. im seeing more and more big rims and tires instead of 6" + lifts.

Tho so cal is stil the home of "lifted trucks and dirty bitches"

If you are not mexican or mexinca looking, I suggest staying out of mexico right now. You will get ripped off most likely and the cops are up the ass all over looking for something to get you with.

Spend a day in La Jolla, hot air balloon ride, relax at the cove, nice restaurants there. Visit UCSD, the Oceanography dept. Send the wife to spa or shopping, you spend a day at Torrey Pines...
