Microbrews. I'm sold!

I guess that'll help make the commute easier no matter where I end up living, huh?

I know it looks ghetto. What do you expect with Snoop's uncle being the owner?

Anyway, their food is usually almost as good as free sex at the bunny ranch. It's insanely expensive and really really good, for the most part.

Oh Reo's? Man that place wasn't all that great. They got the look of a good barbeque joint but not the meat to back it up. I'm just spoiled though since my dad's from Georgia. I have never had as good barbecue as I have had in Georgia. Ever in the Columbus, GA area, check out Country's. Despite looking rather reputable, they have some of the best meat I've ever had.

One thing that I really liked about Portland was all of the Teriyaki joints. The only Asian fare I get on campus is Chinese food (which is pretty good here); the Japanese style is at a regular sitdown (expensive) restaurant. I made full use of the local Teriyaki place near me.

All this talk of food makes me think that Portland had better have some good sushi and Japanese, Thai, Greek, and German restaurants. At least, they'd better.

Oh, and a Somalian restaurant would be nice, too.

I dunno about somalian, but there are fantastic sushi restaurants around here. Way too many to list, but the first person to say Todai is getting an e-knife in the face. That place blows compared to real sushi restaurants. Mio Sushi's a great place down 185th.

Anyway, for German, there's one good restaurant and it's called the Rhinelander. At least, I think I spelled that right There are some decent Tai restaurants and a *few* Greek restaurants. There's a place called the Mad Greek Deli at 185th & West... err... what the hell's the name of that road? Meh, anyway, yes, portland has good food.

You do realize that by telling me this you're only going to be propositioned for a tour and dinner(s), right?

The Asian cuisine shouldn't be a problem.

Rheinlander - German

There are a few Greek restaurants, my favorite is Greek Cusina.

As for Somalian, you're on your own

I've actually never been impressed by Reo's. There is better BBQ in Portland IMO.

Ringside is awesome for steaks of course. Jake's for seafood (once again, of course).

My favorite sushi is Hakatamon. They just recently moved next door to the Uwajimaya's on Beaverton-Hillsdale Hwy.

Plenty of good Thai. Along with anything else Asian you could imagine.

I don't do German or Somalian. Plenty of good Lebanese, Arabian, and Persian restaurants in town though.

portland has some great Thai restaruants. i mean real THAI food not malaysian food dressed up to look like thai food. weird, in this area, all the "thai" restaruants just have malaysian food.

i miss the thai restaruants i used to go to in Portland.

well, i drove through there on my way to WA from CA and back, and I learned this:

cool buildings in downtown.

50 MPH speed limits on the interstates

WTF is this state thinking? seriously, OR and WA must be the fvcking wimpiest driving states in the whole country. i've never seen such knee-jerk limit dropping in my life. I-5 through Portland would be 65-70 MPH in any other state. and even in the tiny little towns that are barely more than truck stops, they drop the limit to 60. give me a freaking break. and you know what's worse? people actually drive those limits! we felt like we were threading our van through a parking lot, even in the middle of the night when everybody should have been doing 90. also, rush-hour traffic sucked on our way up.

we actually did a solid 100 MPH+ (GPS verified) from just outside portland to the eastern OR/WA border. in a minivan! we also saw lots of people pulled over, but we emerged unscathed. (They nailed us in Washington a few days later, though).

You'll want to live close to work, the commute downtown is no problem for night life. No way you want to live in Pearl and drive to Tualitin to work everyday.

I live out in Forest Grove, and the commute on the West side sucks ass if you don't work close to home. (I work in Forest Grove)

For comfort food, my wife manages the Black Bear Diner in Beaverton. Good food and reasonable prices. (opening soon in Tualatin also if not already)

Portland is a great city, probably my favorite downtown area. Its a great place to be in the Summer with a decent music scene and youthful culture. Pretty family safe for an urban area.

First I had to check and make SURE you weren't moving up here from California.

Come on over!

Stay away from Burnside....

Go to one of the McMenamins (SP?) outside of PDX (where they have a 9 hole course & hotel onsight) and get the crunchy french toast .

I'm glad you like it.

Here's a list of some public golf courses in the area -- Text

Don't bother with McMenamins at Edgefield if you're looking for serious golf. It's a great place but the course is just a pitch-n-put.

Wait till winter. When I lived there back in 93-94 they didnt salt the roads and there are alot of hills. I was selling cars near a small hill and would just watch the people trying to get up it but it was most fun watching the cars slide down it. Also they had a theater there that you could smoke in, eat food (great food) and had all of the micro beers there you could sample.
The people were great and they had some wierd party places, some of which I was warned NOT to go into the back room (and didnt).

Coffee People >> *

Large Caramel Mocha Mindfreezer FTW!

I'm rollin' down to Seaside tomorrow, pretty sure I got the last room in town. If I wanted to live in this kind of heat I'd move to freakin' Saudi Arabia. :|
