Calls to India 42c/min using ATT and MCI

Hi,
I was looking to see if ATT had come up with a better rate than the 53 cents ,I get currently. On their website they have a new plan(Any Hour International Savings) wich has a lower monthly fee(2.95) for calling India at 53 cents. But when I called them up to find out more about it, they told me India was 42c/min on that plan. That is a great rate , unless I have been missing on something. The monthly fee is 2.95$ , which is good as well for international. I also took a look at the rates for MCI on their website. They have India at 42c as well but with a monthly fee of 10$!!!! Their weekend plan(49c weekdays,42 weekends) with monthly fee of 2$ is good for people who use calling cards on weekdays , but find it hard to get a connection on weekends. Any good calling card deals are welcome on this thread. I currently use the 21c/min to Delhi calling card from www.wqn.com . Lately this card has been sucking bad, charging me soooo many times for a minute without giving me a connection.
Hope this helps a few people......
Even if you are on the plan I mentioned for ATT make aure you call up to find if you are getting the new lower rate.

You could try Zoneld.com. They have great domestic and international rates with no minimum monthly fee. Domestic .04/min for up to 5 states and .045 for all other state. 6 second billing with a minimum call lenght of only 12 seconds. International rates are routed over the cheapest carrier. Rates in India are less than .30 to some cities.

I use them for domestic long distance with no problems. I have not tried them for international calls.

I use Nobelcom. It has good rates for calling many countries, and since my folks dont live in any of the big cities in India, it works out well for me. I can also get through on weekends ;-).

I have been using the calling cards from WQN.com for a few months and their rate seems to be the best. Right now they have a Holi special rate that is 33 cents to anywhere in India, lower for selected cities.

Voice quality is pretty good and there isn't any noticeable time lag.

They sometimes screw up in timing your call though ... so always call with a stopwatch to make sure they are not overcharging you for minutes used.

Here is the link to the Holi special deal -- https://www.wqn.com/phonecard/phonecard.asp?cc=ind

Actually if they are not honest with timing, that pretty much defeats whatever good rates they are advertising. It's always been a pain to call the customer service of calling card companies to get the refunds... I like the TeleTaxi and TeleRixa cards that we get in abundance in this Little India called 'Oak Tree Road' in Edison, NJ !

And I love the weekend special food stalls at so many of the Indian 'Express' food shops !

Beware of www.wqn.com - I have had a terrible time getting a call thru. Worse, I have spent more than $5 of my $20 Delhi card without having made a single call - I get a busy tone followed by disconnection and my a card has 1 less minute on it. I emailed them several times, but they did not care to response. My time is too valuable too pursue this so I gave up. So in nutshell, it is cheap, yes. But be prepared for the aggravation and may be also ending up in a situation where you actually pay more than the regular phone company. I wish MCI matched the ATT deal...

Shameless plug but this is a deal soooo... My company distributes calling cards in a 4 state area on the east coast. Here is the lowdown on India:

All India 27 minutes $10 no connect fee on SmartTalk prepaid division off AT&T
30 minutes all areas or 50-56 to 6 large cities $10 no connect fee IDT (6 largest carrier in US)

You can't touch the prepaid rates cards offer to ANY country (why? no loss for delinq. accounts). The key is to know which cards are honest and which are dirty. For every 20 cards there is 1 clean honest billing cards.

Domestic- I have a card that is .019 cpm with .69 cent biweekly fee. That is under the carriers cost. Consider Costco is selling Worldcom cards at .035 cpm and there is no markup.

I buy $100k/weekly of prepaid time. Can beat any legit per minute rate offered by any company. Also can give discounts on $200+ purchases effectively lowering per minute cost.

You could use ZoneLD, but they resell Global Crossing Network access, and Global Crossing has filed Chapter 11...

of course, ymmv

Brian -

What about rounding on your cards ? Is it 3min or 1min ? Also which cities are 56 minutes?

Couldn't find much info at cardcents.com

lanb-

BTW the website was started in the gold-rush days of the internet when everyone was going to move their business online. The return on the time invested was not even close to the sales my company does by visiting the stores in person. It was never finished or updated.

Caveat emptor (sp?)-
The most aggressive (under cost) minutes are generally promotional and are for a limited time to distingish the card in the market place and to saturate the market by getting it on the shelf in the stores. This means that at any moment the minutes can be reduced without notice. The more reputable companies with gradually cut the minutes, the less reputable ones will either kill the card by cutting the minutes 50% or more or even worse deactivating the cards that are in the market.

Anyways in checking the cities I found that the minutes were lowered to 40 with 1 min rounding and .69 cent biweekly fee to
bangalore, bombay, new delhi, ahamadabad, hyderabad, madras. The rest of India is still 30.

Of course these rates may allso change but I doubt they will come down by more than a minute or two. The TCC Pro Asia now says 30 min to all of India but this one I believe is 3 minute rounding which is really no big deal in the overall per minute rate.

I spoke with Zoneld and they have many carriers that they use, one being Global Crossing. As for the Global Crossing bankruptcy, they have issued a memo stating that they don't expect it to affect service and it won't affect pricing. If for some reason however, they realize there may be a potential for interupted service, the have stated that they will be proactive and notifiy customers who may be affect ahead of time. Zoneld also has a promotion where they will credit you account for 50 state to state minutes on your third bill. This promotion ends 04/30/02. (International rates are billed in 6 second intervals with a minimum call length of only 30 seconds.)

Anyone know what billing increments are used for PinCity? Also, how's the NobleCom's service? $0.55 to Vietnam is pretty good.

Bumping up for some feedback on Noblecom's service

They have some new cards for India at $0.27 per min with 3 min rounding.
Anyone have any recent experience with them.

i use Onesuite for domestic as well as international calls.
no problems at all. ATT and MCI sucks when it comes to
calling their CS #s to correct billing errors + i can't keep
track of $ spent on calls. With onesuite, i have a control
and it lets me check realtime balance online.
Oh by the way, I hate ATT and MCI bills coz of too many
taxes.....Onesuite rocks....

I've been using BigZoo.com (sister site of OneSuite.com) for a while and highly recommend it for domestic and international calls.

Your PIN never changes.
With their PINSkip feature you don't have to enter in your PIN.
Very detailed online billing.
Recharge your PIN online.
Best of all super low rates!

Let's add some sugar to this deal... If you are a Continental Airline's OnePass member, then you get 5 miles for every dollar you spend with this ATT plan. It does take 2 months however for Att to kick miles.

onesuite is great for domestic LD. unfortunately neither they nor
bigzoo have good rates to India (onesuite is good for the 3 cities
mentioned above)

why can't someone come up with a reliable card/service with a decent
rate to India :|

There isn't any good service to india coz the phone company (or companies) are craap. Big time. I try to call Kerela like 1/month, and the stupid thing sometimes won't connect until I redial like the 6th time. The phone lines over there big time sux.

Course, this is to a smaller town in the area, but I will stick by my statements.... Even calling Chennai or Mumbai is basically a foul deal...

"Sister site"???? Is this a guess or fact? I always suspected that. Their web sites are just too similar.
