I really don't care about them, but I've had some complaints before from the ahem, confidantes.

How do you guys avoid/deal with etc?

Chalk definitely does not help, since the calluses form from the pressure of the textured bars themselves. Only have calluses on my palms, at the base of the fingers.

Those are supposed to be there. I've gone without using chalk before and my hands looked like I spent my time jerking off a cheese grater.

I've seen guys use gloves when they lift, or you could be that guy who uses straps for everything.

Maybe you could try that PedEgg thing on your hands?

Edit:
I've also seen terra cota foot scrubbers available that you could try.

Is it really that bad? I have some slightly rough spots at the base of my fingers, but it's hardly noticeable. I don't use chalk or anything.

Mine are pretty savage...do you want girly hands?!

Just sand them down and cut them up with nail clippers. This is to mainly stop them getting too big and ripping off flesh, bleeding and spreading AIDS on to other lifters.

People don't use chalk or straps to prevent calluses. You get them either way. People try to use gloves, but the gloves detrimentally affect maximal grip strength. If you're gonna lift and complain about calluses, just learn how to maintain them. You can get a grater + pumice stone to keep them smooth. That typically alleviates complaints.

What do I go to a grocery store or are there special ones lol.

I also find gloves to make my existing calluses hurt like a bitch, and does not really help with stopping them either.

I use a light weight pair of half-finger gloves, when I first started lifting I got nasty callouses as well and I hated the buggers. I don't feel like the gloves hold me back, at least not in any meaningful way and they have pretty much stopped the callouses entirely.

I've been having a lot of trouble with calluses lately myself. I have very thick calluses at the base of each finger and another somewhat thick one right before the first joint of each finger. It's gotten so that they pinch together and cause a great deal of pain on most lifts. It never occurred to me to use anything to file them off though. I may try that today.

Shave the calluses down. It keeps the skin smooth which not only feels better, but also reduces the chances of a tear. I use a callus shaver similar to this one that I got at a local CVS for $5. Works like a charm.

Deal with them. If people are that picky about them, screw them. I've never had any complaints and I have them on my fingers and hands from years of lifting.

he's not talking about "people" he's talking about girls who think the calluses feel rough when he's giving them the shocker. you know going down with one in the brown. two in the pink one in the stick. paving the hershey highway. two in the grass one in the ass.

Just tell the chick your hands are ribbed for her pleasure.

Edit: Or dude, whatever the case may be.

That's why RB said "screw them". He apparently prefers more conventional methods.

The answer is: No, you do not.

I was training with this guy the other night that had hands as soft as my wife's, and similar lack of grip strength to go along with them.

OP: Maybe you should look for a chick that likes it rough?

My wife got me a course file for feet that looks kinda like a cheese grater. If I use it after I shower my callouses are much more manageable. If I do it on dry skin it's like sanding down a 2x4 with a piece of notebook paper. Yeah the callouses are just part of the deal. I don't know what to do about em other than file em down.

I've never had an issue with calluses. I mean, I get them, and they kinda peel off on their own. I've never had one tear and I've never had to do anything special to maintain them. If skin gets loose I just sorta pull it off.

Ok we need to start posting pictures of our girlfriends.... I mean our hands to evaluate the quality of the calluses present.
