This deal is not just speakers. The Musicworks 300 system includes AM/FM CD. Comparable to Bose WaveCD (I think better) for half the price.

From the Cambridge website...

The MusicWorks 300 system combines our powerful center section with our MicroWorks three-piece amplified speaker system. This mini system will rival the performance of full-size, expensive component stereo systems. And you simply will not get bass response like this from any shelf system.

The MusicWorks center section has an AM/FM tuner, a single CD player, a multi-function LCD display, digital clock, and a preamp-level output designed to drive powered multimedia loudspeakers. The four-position preset equalizer includes "Rock", "Jazz", "Classical", and "Normal" modes, enabling you to recreate different acoustic environments.

This is also a fantastic desktop audio sytem: A computer mix input is also included so that you can use MusicWorks with your PC. Just plug in your computer?s audio output. Sound will pass through MusicWorks unaltered so that the computer?s audible messages can be heard on the same speakers used for listening to radio or CD.

Dubbed "the only speakers you?ll ever need" by PC Magazine, MicroWorks delivers incredibly accurate sound that actually has more power, more output and more bass than a lot of home stereo systems. The built-in amplifier features 67 watts total, resulting in over four-times the acoustic output of most multimedia speaker systems. Deeper and stronger bass response along with the clear, wide-range sound enable MicroWorks to easily fill a living room, a conference room, even a small auditorium with beautiful music. The compact, shielded satellite speakers fit just about anywhere. The subwoofer has a very minimal "footprint," only half of a square foot. Since it reproduces only non-directional bass, it can be placed out of the way, like behind your TV, under your desk or behind furniture. Boot magazine attributes MicroWorks with "?chest thumpin? bass?crystal-clear highs?no distortion." The combination of MicroWorks with MusicWorks results in a compact system that will undoubtedly leave the competition in the dust. Try it out risk-free for 45 days if you don?t believe us.

i got the microworks speaker... bought it for $80 refurb recently, and those are very very sweet sounding speakers even though it's only a 2.1 setup... the sub itself pumps out 40w of power and the satelites have great clarity... i can crank it up loud without any noticeable distortion... great speakers... but i dun think the cd/fm player is worth it to make the setup worth some $250... but the speakers are definitely awesome, no doubt about it...

<< I saw Hifi.com selling this speaker on ebay for only $150.

is it a better deal?
>>

it's kinda hard to find the microworks speakers at other online stores nowadays, so hifi.com is one of the few places to get a brand new set.... but for $150, you might be better off spending an extra $20-30 to get klipsch 2.1 speakers... but if u can find microworks for less than $100, that'd be a good deal... for around $160, you can also check out the logitech z-560 4.1 speaker system, i heard these logitech ones kick butt

There's a lot of stereo systems you can get for around $300. Why is the MusicWorks 300 System the best?

It depends on your taste and requirements. In audio gear different models of speakers with roughly similar specifications sell for wildly ranging prices, presumably because of a perceived difference in quality.
Why do people spend a lot of money to buy old McIntosh stereo tube amplifiers rated for 100 wpc today rather than a cheap Sony model with 5 x 100 wpc? Because they think it sounds better.
My recommendation is to buy the cheapest equipment that satisfies your own personal requirements. I, along with several audio reviewers, like the way Cambridge products sound and think they are worth the money. Others may not.
I thought this was a hot deal because the regular price for the MicroWorks speakers was $249.99 and the regular price for the MusicWorks center section (AM/FM/CD) was $149.99. S&H is normally $20 for this system. Therefore, the deal I posted represents about 40% off of the full price.
A couple of years ago, I paid $50 dollars more for a similar JVC desktop stereo system. In terms of sound quality, that?s like comparing a Volkswagon to a Porsce. Yep, they are both cars, both have four wheels, an engine, etc.
