Camcorders

My current camcorder is 7 years old and want to buy a new one. However Im not sure which is the best to buy now days. Can anyone tell me the pros and cons over the ones that burns stright to DVD compared to ones that have the built in H/D?

Just guessing? Burning stright to DVD's more convient? Compared to coping to the computer and buring with Nero? Which has the better picture?

Any help would be apperciated or a good website!

The category is general hardware, not computer hardware. So this is probably as good a category as any.

And the video forum is primarily for computer video card discussion.

I think it depends on what you want to use it for, and how much editing you want to do after taking the initial video. Something else to consider is there are now some camcorders that use memory cards, might be better than dvd or hard drive for some uses.

if you plan on editing the video, Hard Drive would be best. if you just plan on shooting the video and want to put the raw footage on a DVD for viewing, a DVD camcorder would be better.

The General Hardware Forum is for computer related general hardware.

However, the question is valid here because of the relationship to DVD and HDD.

The video forum is for all video related threads. Video cameras are video.

Panasonic 3CCD Mini-DV.

I find the HD and DVD recorders kind of a bad idea. One uses a small DVD which is optical media and not reliable. The other is a HD that you have to stream off to something for long term storage and hope it doesn't go bad, like DVDs and HDs. You can stream the Mini-DV tapes to HD and then DVD and always have a tape backup for long term storage.

I got that JVC mg50z (whatever the name is) with the 30gig hd the first month it came out, got in a great deal before it hit the stores. anyway, the unit is slick as heck, the movies it spits out are perfect quality (i record at the highest settings, the one higher then standard dvds).

the best thing about it is being able to store 7+ hours of video (at max resolution) and not having to waste time carrying, swapping, and worrying about dropping (tape/dvd) stupid media that wears out quickly (tape), with you.

the unit is very small and light as well. after i fill up, i just connect to the pc, grab the files and i can proceed to edit as i see fit, then burn a dvd if i want.
