Hello all, I just purchased my first digital camera, a Fujifine A340. Had some store
brand batteries laying around so I tried them but only seem to get 5-6 shots before
they croaked. The camera would power up, but just crap out when attempting to take
a shot. Tried another brand new set (2 aa's). same result. My question is, would a better
brand alkaline help out here or are they completely useless for cameras ??
Thanks in advance for any advise/suggestions...

Get yourself some good rechargeable NiMH batteries and a recharger. Alkalines are not the greatest for digital cameras.

Rayovac Hybrid AAs can be found at WalMart near the photo section.

I bought a set of 4 Energizer 2500 mah rechargeables complete with charger of less than $20. They work very well. For non-rechargeables, I would try Eveready Li-ION AA's. They are long lived, but have a downside - hazmat disposition.

There is a new Sanyo product out that is worth a look - the "Eneloop" rechargeables. They come fully charged and have been getting rave reviews.

Thanks for the help, where did you get that deal? online somewhere?? To further prove I'm jinxed
my town sponsored a run of some kind today and had the start/finish in a park across the street
from home, The parking got full so people were parking on the street and a young woman came
over to the passenger side of her car, opened the door and stated to change clothes with a towel
wrapped around her. The towel slipped a few times and wow, what a view! But my batteries were
dead!!

Costco near me carries eneloops + charger for like 20$ or so... Pretty good price I think.

Damn. These batteries are very nice. On my Kodak Z1275, a pair of alkalines can only last 10 minutes recording 720p video. With a cheap pair of 2500mAh NiMH, that recording time goes to about 30 minutes. I have been recording now over 1 hour and the low battery indictor still has yet to appear. My 4GB card is now full so lets see how much more I can get

edit

So I got around 90 minutes of battery life.

Put some Energizer alkalines in and camera woks much better, I'm still gonna get
a rechargeable setup though, I can see where it will save a lot of$$ in the long run.
Too bad there's no Costco around here...

Walmart carries the Rayovac hybrids for like 9$ for 4pack. They are 2100mHa compared to the 2000mHa of eneloops.
