Camera has dead pixel on CCD - 22 Days

I just noticed that my Canon SD960IS has a dead pixel in the center of every picture and video I have taken.

This is the second time I have copied photos to my computer to look at them.
I didn't notice it the first time, but as I go back to the first photo I took, the dead pixel is there.

It has been 22 days since I purchased it at Best Buy.

The small print on the back of the receipt says 14 days for computers, GPSs, digital camera, etc.
30 Days for everything else.

I didn't get the replacement plan.
What are my chances of having them exchange it?

Cannon will have a 1 year mandatory warranty on it. Best Buy isn't going to do shit. Get on the Cannon website and look for a phone number.

And it covers Dead Pixels? Nice.

This is a dead pixel on the CCD, not the screen. His problem pretty much renders the camera useless.

I would try my hardest to get Best Buy to replace it.

I had a DSLR that had CCD problems after a short period and the retailer wouldn't replace it, well Canon did repair it but the camera was never the same as new.
Every time something new was wrong, once they left a bunch of dust inside the housing, then smears and a scratch on the mirror, and once hair inside the eyepiece.

I wound up sending it in quite a few times just to get everything resolved, and there is still a problem with the focusing plate, but I just accepted it will never be "like new".

I noticed it when I hooked it up to my 42" LCD using a new Mini-HDMI cable.
It has an HDMI output and records HD (720p) Video.
The video quality is surprisingly good.

This isn't a computers, GPSs, digital camera, etc, its a webcam, right?

Then its 30 days.

Take it in to them. Technically, a webcam is a digital camera, but they aren't the same thing to best buy. Best buy makes the distinction.

So it should be 30 days.

If they don't see it that way, then tell them you see it this way and you need them to make an exception.

If there is still a problem, buy a new one and put the old one in the package and return it for a refund 2-3 days later. Pay cash. When you pay cash, you are refunded cash. And there't nothing trackable about it.

There's no reason to screw anybody here by being a scamming jackass. If Best Buy won't exchange it, talk to Canon. If Canon won't do anything then go through your CC company.

If opened you pay a restocking fee because they then have to sell it at a lower price as an open box after fixed. If you are able to seal it so that you can claim that it is un-open then they just re-sell it. The poor guy who then buys it later for his daughters birthday(which is more than 14 days out after return date) gets somebody elses problems. So basically you are either fucking the next customer or fucking the business who generously offered their own protection plan for the item to help you out of this situation.

It's unfair that the OP had this problem in the first place. But he should deal with the problem in a respectable manor and not be a pos.

Read your Best Buy receipt. You know, the thing they give you when you buy the damn digicam that tells you about BB's return and exchange policy?

...how do you tie your shoes in the morning?

Well this is why we have Fry's Electronics. No questions asked return policy. LOL.

Anyway, talk to Canon. You have a 1 yr warranty. If you read what those Canon guys deal with all the time on like POTN forums you will see that Canon accepts a lot of crap back. I'm not familiar with P&S fixing but I've seen plenty of lens fixing and recalibration done in warranty...

LOL wat? I challenge you to find a CCD without a dead pixel. They ALL have dead pixels, usually they are corrected by software, if not then get the camera repaired.

Somehow, you manage to contribute nothing to every thread you post in.
I know exactly what their policy is. I even told you what their policy was in the first post.

My question is whether or not they stretch this if it is obvious that it was defective from day 1. It's not like it broke on day 22 of the 14 day return policy.

White, so I guess that's hot.
It's almost in the center of every picture and video.
It's hard to see on the LCD, but when you look at dark photos on a computer, you can see it easily. It's very noticeable on dark videos because the white pixel stays in the same place even though the background is shifting.

I have read that a hot pixel can sometimes be cured by leaving the battery out of the camera for a while.

There are always pixels in a CCD that don't work. They are normally mapped at the factory and not used by the camera. Some cameras allow you to map dead pixels yourself.

They exchanged it!

She asked if I wanted the service plan for $45 on the new one.
She said that I only have another year of returning it without the plan.

I bought the replacement plan this go around... this ordeal was a little too close for comfort.

I wonder what the 14 Days applies to? Exchange for non-defective equipment?

14 days is still what applies, but they'll exchange it if it's close to it or if you push hard enough.
