the new Altima looks gorgeous. Honda and Toyota better watch out for this one. I kinda like the new Malibu, it's TL like.

Both are just relying on their name kinda like Sony is trying to, except people don't really hate Honda or Toyota... yet? I have no experience with Hondas, but Toyota's quality has taken a beating with their rapid growth, like the new Camry's transmission problems, and the paint chipping problem with the new Tacomas, and engine tick. If someone was in the market for a car and only had the Camry or Accord on their list, then I would really try to suggest that they look at a Subaru Legacy aka the poor mans Bimmer. The Accord might be a good choice, but they've got alot of problems with their transmissions as well, unless they resolved it.

Because 5 years after purchase, Accords & Camrys (aside from some dirt) will still ride & drive pretty much exactly the way they did when brand new & thats no "illusion"... Subaru also makes very high quality & reliable cars.

Although they have improved, no American car can say that & those who claim differently just arn't speaking from experience.

Maybe if I didn't know anything about cars I would like them too. I've had a few beers and I still don't get it.

Not to mention the resale value. Used American cars aren't worth crap.

Edmunds Trade-In Values:
2003 Chevy Malibu LS Sedan $6,516
2003 Ford Taurus SE Sedan $5,862
2003 Dodge Intrepid (a complete POS) $5,508
2003 Honda Accord LX V6 Sedan $12,694
2003 Toyota Camry LE V6 Sedan $11,928
2003 Nissan Maxima SE Sedan $11,572

It's called complacency. The good ole, if it's not broken, don't fix it. If the competition starts taking share, then they'll take the time to do better designs.

2007 Camry SE model is particularly sharp.

I thought the latest Accord was ugly too at first, but it's grown on me.

I think the Mercury Milan is best looking car in the class.

I like the looks of the Camry, but my wife doesn't. I'm not a fan of the new Accord, though.

and how much of a discount did those american cars get up front? it's not really depreciation when you never paid it to begin with.

The new Camry design is pretty nice IMO. But I've always thought Accords looked meh. We'll see how Honda revamps it in 2008.

I only paid $22,400 for my '03 Maxima SE w/auto transmission and power moonroof brand new...it had 6 miles on it when I bought it almost 4 years ago.

I've driven a new Malibu. It doesn't even compare quite honestly.

I love the 2003-2004 Honda Accord. I still don't know why they changed the design but the car is basically the same. They should have kept that design.

This could possibly be the 2008 Honda Accord. But I am looking forward to the Honda FCX.

I liked the new Camry design at first, but now I'm not so sure.

I'm not a fan of the new Camry. The current Accords are alright, I;m glad they got rid of the ugly tails lights though.

My personal fav (non-luxury) sedan is the 02-05 VW Passat.

yeah, i remember those days when maximas were cheap like that. right after the altima came out they dropped in price to almost match the altima. [almost bought one. decided i didn't need a $400 car payment. in the long run, going with a cheaper car with a cheaper payment is going to cost me more as my car is a POS and i really want to get rid of it. i'd have probably driven a maxima into the ground.]

that's a pretty rare situation, however.

Actually the Passat is another car they've ruined the looks of. The new ones are much less attractive than the prior (very handsome) car, and they've gotten very expensive as well.

So true, the new ones are very "bloated" looking. They just look like a pudgy Jetta, which is a shame. The previous Jettas were pretty nice. Now they both look the same, and like poo. The new Rabbit/GTI though, yum yum. Glad they got one of them right

I pretty much did leave my bias out of it. I was speaking strictly of numbers until someone brought discounts into the equation.
