Question Can 60hz monitors play 24fps movies at 24fps, or do I need 72hz - 144hz monitors?Looking for 24fps flicker free monitor with good motion and contrast

Can 60hz monitors also be lowered to 24hz to play 24fps movies at 24fps, or can they either not do it, or it would look bad? Im going with flicker free monitor so it might be fine if they can do it.

Reason I ask is seems like 144hz monitors tend to have more issues than 60hz. But 60hz is not a multiple of 24. Plz give advice.

What Im looking for is flicker free monitor with good brightness, contrast, color, and motion (no smear, ghosting etc) for 24fps movies.

You would have to look at their specs, I would guess that it will be extremely rare for one to have that ability.
What you can do is to use a tool like smooth video project that will increase the frame rate of the movie in real time to match your display.

24 FPS content will play fine on 60HZ screen with a 3:2 cadence. It's worked like this for ages. This is what the VAST majority of TVs have done for many, many years.

That judder is mostly in peoples heads. I'm sensitive to 24 FPS judder, and see it more in movie theaters that run at even multiple of 24 FPS, than I see it on my 60 Hz TV or 60 Hz monitor, mostly because big screens make it more obvious.

Plus I see no difference at all running my new monitor at 60 Hz (3:2 uneven cadence) or 120 Hz (5:5 even cadence) when watching movies.

60 is divisible though, 6x4 or 6x10. This was a big issue back in the real early LCD days. 1080i vs 1080p. It has been a long time now, but early 60hz+ TVs that were labeled as 120hz smooth motion ect, were fake 120hz.

Don't have the time or energy to dig for stuff atm. But a 60Hz monitor should play 24fps just fine.
