Can 79xx Nvidia video cards do Portrait Mode?

I have a Dell 2001fp LCD monitor that I use in portrait mode. Awhile back, I have an Nvidia 6600gt card that could not do portrait mode natively. It could do it in software but the picture was horribly slow and jittery. I switched to a Radeon x850 card and it seems to support the portrait mode in hardware. Video seems to be just as smooth as in landscape mode.

My question is can the newer 79xx or 78xx card handle portrait mode natively (hardware)? If you have an Nvidia card in portrait mode, you know what I am asking.

Did you set up portrait mode from nvidia control panel (like rotations?)

All NV4x- and G7x- (and maybe earlier chips) based cards should support that in hardware. You don't need to use software like Pivot Pro. NVIDIA has NVRotate in the control panel and I believe you can set keyboard shortcuts for it as well.

I used the nvrotate. As I said, the picture was awful.

Something isn't right. Was the picture bad looking or just plain slow? Hardware DirectX/OpenGL acceleration may be a problem, but run-of-the-mill GDI (i.e. Windows) acceleration should run without fault.

Ive had the same problem for the past year. It really ruins screen rotation when scrolling and menus are so horribly slow. Im using a 7900GT with the most recent detonators.

If your 7900gt is bad, I would assume that all of the nvidia card are the same. Pity. I would have thought that they would have fixed it by now. Looks like I will have to stay with ATI (not that there's anything wrong with that).
