Can a computer have 2 ethernet port with no conflict

Hi All,

I have a computer (A) which needs to connect with Computer (B) with crossover cable (no choice). B also is special design computer from IBM for a specific industry. It has an XP but embaded with software, can't change any configuration. Now machine A (HP pavilion 3 years old) should also have internet connection.

I have Bellsouth connection (Westell Modem). When USB 2.0 is used for internet connectivity, It does not work. When asked , bell south adviced that as ethernet port is used, machine will keep accessing internet through ethernet port. there is a clear conflict. On suggestion, I got linksys ethernet router which I believe assigns internal IP address to both the machine.

But as Machine B has static IP address and can not be configured, it displays error " there is a conflict in IP address "

I need your suggestions to connect this computer and get internet connectivity to computer A. my doubt was
1. can i add another ethernet port to machine A ?
2. If yes, can one of them be used specifically to used machine B static IP address and another for internet without any connectivity ? How ?
3. Is there any suggestions?

In general using the Linksys is a much better idea.

However if the IP on the? Strange" computer cannot be changed you need to find what is the IP and change the Linksys default IP to much the Band of computer B.

Let say that the static computer is 192.168.100.100

Put the Linksys alone on computer A Log to the Linksys Menu and change the IP to 192.168.100.1

However if computer B is set to some kind of "Kinky" None- Private IP, you might consider using it as a Door Stop.

The static IP address of computer B is 192.168.1.97 and does not fall in the range of Linksys internal I P addresses, but still shows the conflict. should I change the range in Linksys to get the same address of computer B

Configure XP for dynamic addressing. You can control access via Access control at the router..

Pal,

I can not configure that machine to receive IP dynamically. Machine is configured for gasoline industry and re booting to access Windows causes entire business to shut down

The whole thing is confusing.

You can not share with double NICs and ICS because ICS in not flexible about IP and will not work with computer B.

The Best solution is to connect the Ethernet connection of the Modem to the WAN input of the Router. Disable the Router?s DHCP assign a static IP (like 192.168.1 10) to computer A and it suppose to work.

If your Westell is a USB only buy an External Ethernet Modem.
