if it wasn't distorted, it'll be fine. but even if it was, it'll probably survive that one blast.

yes, i blew apart a HTIB sub with the appolo 13 launch, didnt mean to but i guess the volume of it was to much to handle for the underpowered sub, ripped the woofer surround. Havent had the issue since switching to real audio equipment.

With a setup with that much power behind it, I'd be more worried about the foundations of your dwelling still being intact and stable.

it can cause damage. It depends on the type of equipment though.

you would immediately know if there was damage. If the system sounds the same now at low and reasonably high volume, likely you are OK, just be more careful next time.

You will typically see this on systems that do not have enough power. What happens is that the amplifier will clip the waveform and change it from the normal sinusoidal wave into a square wave. When the speakers receiver a square wave, it can damage the driver because instead of having the driver move out and in in a smooth motion, it litterally just pops it to the peak and holds it there until you hit the falloff and it pulls the driver back in. This causes severe stress on the speaker driver, typically resulting in damage to the spider (or servo) from the high forces caused by the driver's mass/momentum being changed so quickly.

happens to mine all the time. thats why i like having an amp thats matched well with the speakers, so its hard to get distortion even at high levels.

Amplitude can definitely kill your speakers. Like trying to play the canon scene in Overture 1812. That's the number 1 source for blown home stereos apparently.

really? I have the (shitty) re-mastered Telarc 1812 DVD-A. I cover my ears if I play that at reference ()

I don't think I have ever blown speakers... and I grew up amongst them.

Not saying what you said is false, just new information to me.

For bass drivers, you can bottom them, sounds like a "clank" noise. Also, motorboating the woofer is possible, sounds exactly like a boat's motor.

For tweeters, a square wave can simply just cause the tweeter to cease functioning. When you lose a tweeter, you will know since the sound suddenly becomes very dull.

I have never overloaded a mid-driver.
