I'm getting ready to order the above mentioned case, but with four fans I'm a little concerned it might sound a lot like a jet turbine when its running. Can anyone suggest a good sound insulation material to deaded the fan noise? I'm open to ideas from store bought insulation to something I may be able to rig up from things I have laying around my home. Thanks.

sound foam does not work on fan noise.

I have the Lian Li PC61 with modded 120mm top hole.

Best thing you can do is the following (assuming the top fan is 80mm on your case):
4x panaflo L1A or 12L 80mm.
5.25" bay Fan controller - run 4 panaflos at 7V.
Seasonic S12 430 power supply - very quiet

Now the noise makers are your CPU fan, Chipset fan, GPU fan, HDDs.

CPU - SI-97 for SocketA, XP90 for all else unless you can fit the XP120
CPU FAN - Panaflo L1 92mm @ 7V

Chipset - Zalman NB47J, custom make if NB47J doesnt fit

GPU - Artic Cooling, Zalman, have aftermarket quiet coolers

HDD - Suspend, or place hdd on sorbothane

Edit: After all the above measures have been taken, you can now try sound insulation materials. I have extra egg crate bedding material behind my computer case. Most of the noise in my computer come from the front.

Isolate the fans from the metal with Vantec fan kits from jab-tech.com et al. (or rubber mounting pins from McMaster-Carr et al.) and deaden the metal panels with something like rope caulk (Mortite and FrostKing are two brand names). I used that stuff inside the top panel of my Silverstone Berserker and it deadened it nicely. Also cut out any case material that blocks air flow to cut down on air-flow noise (whistling).
. We used to use rope caulk on the underside of turntables in the olden audiophile days to deaden them. Not pretty, but it works. You could hide it with fireproof fabric (e.g. Nomex) like they use in racing suits or what have you, if you need to. Clean the metal surfaces with rubbing alcohol before applying the Mortite - it'll stick better.

Just get an Antec case with 120mm case fans, and put a Seasonic 120mm-fan PSU in there.

Slow-speed 120mm fans will move the same amount of air as a high-speed 80mm fans, and do it quieter.

The solution I'm looking for isn't to buy more fans, the case comes with four fans already (1x120 and 3x80 i believe). I'm looking for more of a homebrew kind of solution. There's got to be someone out there that's tried something and it worked.

Right, and we are telling you that it makes sense to tackle the noise problem head on, not some round about way like sound deadening material. If a fan is a noise maker, that means you have to do something directly with that fan. Whether it be replace it, or lower the voltage going to it.

Homebrew sound insulation only works to quiet down noise sources like harddrives that are within the case. Fans are on the exterior of the case and no matter what you do, noise created by them will go directly out of the case. The noise is not going to go into the case, find the insulation and hide in there.

Agreed..............you've got to have quiet case fans.........the one thing testimonials do say the insulation kits do help is noise from nigh RPM Northbridge/VGA fans and Heatsink Fans as well as drive noise.......

Where you got a hole, you'll get noise most of the time ..

80mm fans are noisy & if you run them slower they don't push enough air. 120mm fans are far better, you can run them slower and still have decent air flow.

Take a look at the Lian-Li PC7A plus, there is a version w/ 2 - 120mm fans.

Good suggestions all around gang. The case is already ordered, I went with the PC60. I should probably wait until it gets here, hook it up and see if its tolerable before I do anything.
