ok so on December 13th i bought a 95 camaro from a guy, applied for a bonded title as he claimed he lost the original title.
well all went smooth until today, i called the state title bureau and my title application was accepted but denied at the same time.. weird.
so my tags are still good but they will not release a title to me in my name.

i've called the bureau back asking if they could provide me with the lien holders information but they told me to call my local office.

so calling my local office, first they tell me they never received the denial statement from the bureau telling me who is stopping me from getting my title. then i ask well can i come in and get the vin checked in person to get the history report so i can find out who the lien is with.
oh no sir im sorry but we do not have that type of system to be able to do so.

i said well your the dmv your supposed to be able to get me the info i need on this vehicle.

she says try carfax..

so here i am.. seeing if anyone can help me out with vin check so i can find out who is putting the lien on the title for my car.

if anyone has a unlimited account and would nice enough to help me please pm me and i can send you the vin #

Lesson: The owner should have a clear title. I don't hand over the cash until he can hand over a clear title.

Time to call back the BMV. Better yet, go there in person. Stay calm.

My bet is that the lienholder AND title is from some other state.

This will be a huge headache, if you're even able to resolve it. I wouldn't be surprised if it turns up stolen and they take the car from you.

I have gone through with bonded titles. What makes you think there is a lien holder out there for this car? a bonded title doesn't mean that there is. It probably is more like he "lost" the title, but didn't have the proper documentation to get a duplicate. there is something fishy going on. He likely "bought" the car without a title and has no paperwork to show he bought or owns the car. further he likely has no idea who actually does have the title to car which is why he couldn't get a title without it being bonded.

You are looking at months of headaches ahead. Get in contact with the guy that "sold" you the car and have him start back tracking and find out the real story behind the car

ya, ive walked away from some sweet rides due to the "i lost the title" excuse. sucks, but theres always a reason they didnt spend an hour and 12 bucks to get a new copy of the title issued.

Usually all you have to do is go down to the DMV and show them the vin with bill of sale. They'll pull up the lien info for you. The problem is getting it released; on a 20 year old car you're likely SOL.

well here in MS bonded titles are usually easy to deal with ive done plenty of them.
the title bureau in jackson,ms told me there was a lien on the car out of state

ive tried going to dmv and they say they cant do anything for me.

its already a headache for me now..
i know its not stolen, i was able to get the local PD to run a theft check before i bought it.

if i can just get a history report i can find out who the lien holder is and maybe work something out with them.

You know it's not stolen in your state..... Doesn't mean it wasn't stolen elsewhere.

Even a history report only shows what's in your state.

You need to find out what state it was last titled in and go through there. I suspect that's why your dmv doesn't know anything about it.

wow u guys are so helpful...

You want us to do your legwork because you screwed up.

Push on your DMV to find out where the vehicle was last titled.

Or call the other 49 DMV offices to ask. Each state has a web page with phone #s to call. At 15 - 30 minutes each call, you can get it done in 2-3 solid days worst case.

Remember, you have 5 time zones to account for.

Is there anything in the Garage forum rules against begging for a free Carfax?

im not cheap, if i had the $30 to my name to pay for the car fax i would. but ive put all my money i had into this car and cant even pay rent because i cant sell the car without the title.

i tried to do my homework i went to 2 different state dmv's to run the vin for any liens or theft reports but it all came up clean.

but considering after searching google for 10 hours straight and seeing all the people getting free help for information that isnt even needed yea i guess im asking for someone to help me out.
im not begging i never beg. im simply asking and all the reponses ive gotten out of yall were already tried and came up with nothing.

now ive tried going into the dmv personally and still no help and im sure if i try again it will just be the same damn thing 'sorry we can't help you'

How much can a lien on a 95 Camaro be? Surely not much more than a Carfax.

Do you know anyone that works at a dealership? If not you might go beg someone at a dealership to look it up for you.

The DMV will at least be able to tell you where the previous title is from.

Just ask the correct questions.

If your local office has no denial statement from the bureau, then tell them to give you your title, since they have no denial...

I hate being trollish, yet you don't have the $30 for carfax, but hope to work out a settlement with the lien holder? I doubt the lien holder will settle for a Pepsi and a Moon Pie.

i said it like 3 times that the title bureau sent me a rejection letter

yea i was kind of hoping they would just give it to me.. its probably been a few years and they already considered it a loss.
