Why can't I? And when I do, I only get 6K a sec? I have a cable modem. Anybody know why it goes so slow, and how I fix it?

limited speeds on that port.

P2P programs are suck. newsgroups are your firends.

My one gig download rate for the newsgroup is over. I wish I could get more, but I can not pay for it. Any other good options?

Get eMule and use sharereactor to find what you want. Slow, but you can pretty much get whatever you're after.

You could try IRC, but sometimes it can be hard to find exactly what you're looking for depending on what it is.

Edonkey has been better than anything else for me. Just got to have patience until you get to the front of the lines. Its too bad the program is such a memory hog and slows my computer to a grind after its been downloading for a while.

But you can get ANYTHING with ease, just dont expect it anytime soon.

Yeah, I've been trying eDonkey and am hating it.

I'd like Direct Connect more if only I wouldn't get dropped from the servers so often, it's damn frustrating and I have no idea why it happens.

Anyway, WinMX has been pretty solid for me.

I used to use eDonkey, and it was decent.. but Kazaa Lite has proved just as good for me ... That is when I don't feel like using Direct Connect or hitting up the Newsgroups.

Try downloading the latest version of eDonkey or Overnet. Usually the latest versions are able to achieve higher download rate.

Grab a new server list form Bulldog13's link, and save (overwrite, if necessary) it as server.met in the emule folder. Get on a big server (Silent bob and adanet are good ones), and search. It may take a while to download a file, but you can get all sorts of (legit, of course) things like Linux distros, etc.

www.sharereactor.com - browse around for all their titles. I like them because the integrity of the file is guaranteed.

use http://ocbmaurice.dyndns.org/pl/slist.pl/server.met?download as your server list

www.emule-project.net - use that instead of edonkey2000. It is alot less bloated and more user friendly.

Make sure you are using 2k or xp.

Jack up your connections limit and DL cap limit.

Let it fly.

Anyone wanna explain how newsgroups work?

-File Integrity isn't guaranteed. There is no way they can guarantee it, and they aren't very apologetic for their shortcomings. They've posted links to files that contained virii, and movies that were incomplete. What's more is it took them nearly a week to remove and report a virus after a forum member pointed it out specifically for them in the visitor center forum. The fact that posting a link on SR causes the massive spread of those files, other files are hindered by it. I don't mean to sound like I'm trashing the site, but it does have it's flaws. I would say their forums are much more useful.

Server lists can be trimmed. I recommend going with the servers that have the most users.

eMule made a huge impact on the ed2k network. Supposedly though, the latest eDonkey integrates the ed2k network with the Overnet one. I haven't personally tried it though. I like the features and stability of eMule 26d. There is also the tarod/ plus mods for eMule.

Yes, jack up the connections limit, but keep in mind that this can kill your connection at times. I'd suggest experimenting. Most people should probably find that ~350 is best. You should also jack up your upload limit. The more you upload; the more prioritized you are in other people's queues.
