Can games run on linux?

With regards to linux and games, how have your experiences been?

And yes, I do realise that some options overlap, just choose the most correct.

Games are good on linux.

Just not as plentifal. 7 out of the 10 most popular games run on linux in one way or another, some are native, some need wineX with it's directX translations (with a performance penalty)

Just search google you can find bunches of free games and listings of commercial games and their compatability.

Linux is linux, if a game runs on one distro it'll run on another. I just got done playing Q3 on Debian.

"games" is pretty vague. Q3, gltron, netris, and zsnes are the only ones I've played any significant amount, and they all work fine (though gltron and q3 can sometimes get a tad slow on a matrox g400 )

Yeah, need an option for "other distro."
I was gonna pick mediocre experience, but then I realized that my only mediocre experiences have been with some games that aren't made for Linux. The mere fact that Linux is able to run all games written for it as well as most that aren't makes it pretty impressive, I think.

UT2004 runs flawlessly. One thing that will make your experience better is to use a EMU10K1 sound card like a SBLive or above. Integrated sound cards have poor driver support using ALSA.

Yeah, I can see that. I usually have some Industrial or atleast heavy rock playing when I get a massive game of go fish going.
