Impression 17 inch monitor. Manufactured in May, 1997. I paid $465 for it sometime in 1997-98. Warranty is over. AND NOW THE DISPLAY IS FREAKING PURPLE!

Well...not "too" purple...but just enough to drive you crazy. I opened it up today...peeked inside...

now I'm wondering if someone can guide me on possibly somehow making some adjustments...that would be GREAT!

Otherwise i'm gonna have to take a baseball bat to the front glass of this bastard and make the picture my new background on the new monitor.

Thanks for helping...or letting me know i'm doomed.

Yea degaussing aught to do the trick. If not, you can try lightly hitting the side of the monitor, this helps get the stuff realigned sometimes. Maybe your cord is loose? I got so scared one time when my monitor starting flicking all sorts of color and then all of a sudden zap, no more picture at all! Heh, the cord fell out of the socket of my computer

BTW- nice screen name!

If you touch the flyback (even unpluged) you are dead (litterally, the caps in the monitor carry enough voltage and amperage to stop a human heart), keep that in mind while tinkering around in there. Frankly you are better off getting a new monitor. If you dead set bent on killing yourself do a search on google for "monitor repair guide", there is a site that has an instruction book on how to fix most common problems.

Personally I looked through the guide, saw the part about touching the flyback (it's an exposed wire that is in the way of the entire circuit board) and decided playing with death wasn't worth $200.

Hmmm....i noticed some of the pins on the monitor cable are sort of bent. Looks like they're probably all still going into the video board ok...but u never know.

Does any1 know of site/guide/pic that tells which of the 12 pins is R..G...and B. ? Thanks guys!

Straighten out any bent pins carefully
Check for external color controls or OSD
Wiggle the cord at both ends to see if it gets better (replace cord)
Call around the local TV/Monitor repair shops and see who gives FREE estimates

Hopefully it may only need resoldering.

Of course you don't want to touch anything while the monitor is plugged in, but the only flybacks that present a high voltage hazard when the monitor is unplugged are the very old ones that have external connections for the voltage multiplier. With anything newer, you're safe as long as you don't play with the suction cup on the side of the picture tube because the tube retains high voltage even long after the monitor has been unplugged, and even if you discharge it (can damage components by doing this wrong), it regains its charge.

If you slap a monitor, make sure it's not on the same surface as the computer or the hard drive may gouge a platter. The safest way to slap a monitor is by hitting it simultaneously on the left and right sides - this is done intentionally at the factory during final assembly.
