Can I clean my mobo with Isopropyl?

Wasn't really sure which forum to post this in, but anyways, I just bought a motherboard that was caked in dust. I got sum of it up using a vacuum cleaner...lol and now I wanna get the rest out of the tiny ass little crevices. Is it safe to use Isopropyl for this, like all over the motherboard? Or is it only ok to use it on the surfaces of onboard chips n such?

Yes you can ... if that bothers you can purchase electronics cleaner from Radio Shack ....

Belive it or not water will work but you must make sure you dry the board completely

If the board has a conformal coating then this will be easy .. was off with water then use Isopropyl to absorb water then palce in oven for about 1 hour at 125 deg F

You people are nuts!! If a blast of canned air doesn't do it--leave it.

Remind me to not buy a box of your cookies, then!

Like RickH said, a good blast of compressed air should usually do the trick and a little bit of dust on the mobo doesn't hurt too much (so long as it's not between connections, or coating a heatsink, things like that). Full immersion like what rugrat hints at should only be used in extreme situations. In all cases, though, make sure your mobo is completely dry before turning it back on.

Since I can't seem to ever post a message without some sort of linkification backing up my claims, here's one from Dan's Data on preventative matenience -- http://www.dansdata.com/sbs16.htm
