Can I re-use my old Antec PSU for a new system?

Hi all,

I bought an Antec Truepower 480W power supply about 4 years ago or so. I have been very pleased with it.

I was just wondering if I would be able to use it to build a new system (e8400, p45, 4850, all that stuff). I don't know if the technology has changed or anything... I hear things about 20pin, 24pin, and dual 12V rails and all that?

These are supposedly the specs. I'm not sure if it's the case or not. I couldn't find it on the Antec site. I just found this from googling, on a forum link. I don't have the PSU in front of me right now but I could check later if it helps. I do know it's called the "Truepower 480W" though.

For one NO, the PSU doesn't have the power to support your new system. Now even if it could i wouldn't use it. Its best not to reuse a PSU that is over 2 or 3 years old because designs change. Your 480W PSU only offers about 22A on the combined 12V rails. Todays 480W PSUs offer about 28A or more on the combined 12V rails. Also you have to consider that over time PSUs degrade. They are unable to support the amount of power they once could and the power isn't as clean as it was. Which can lead to instability in a system with higher demands.
