Can I recycle my old Enlight AT case to a modern motherboard/cpu?

I've had this case for 4 years. It has an Enlight 250W PSU, so I figure it's an Enlight case. My guess, it's an AT case cause it had a Tyan Tomcat2 with a P133.

I've always liked this case and I hate to throw it away.

Can I re-use this case, or are there no motherboard/cpu combos today that merit a retrofit. IOW, just toss the case and save the PSU?

Deep six both.

But before you do, be sure it is really an AT case and PS. Look at the largest connector(s) comming from the PS. That is what is supposed to connect to the mobo. If it is one big 20-pin connector then it is ATX, but if it is two connectors, then it is an AT. See this.

It's not worth it to convert unless you REALLY like the case.
I don't even think ATX was around back then!

bupkus: I know where you're coming from. I had an Enlight 6680 case (mid-tower, AT) that I really liked too. Then I bit the bullet and got an Enlight 7237 case (mid-tower, ATX). Guess what? I found out that I like it even more than I did the 6680.

It depends on what you want to accomplish, and what you DO with a computer. If you want a high performance gaming rig, chuck the whole thing, or donate it to a non-profit.

On the other hand, if you surf, word process, balance accounts, and do light gaming etc, then you could upgrade to something better. Soyo makes three different baby-at boards. I would avoid the one with the sis chipset, the 6BB is a solid if dated board, and the one with the 810 chipset(?) I'm sure that there are others. Check soyousa.com.

Any 400mhz+ celeron or Pentium2-3 will blow the doors off your current system. On the other hand, even budget boxes (new) have 600mhz and 10+gig harddrives.

Upgrading can be tricky, and expensive. By the time you get a new board, memory, processor & vid card (unless you go with the 810 chipset) you just spent ~$300, and you'll start to notice that the harddrive is slow...and the AT format is at the end of its lifecycle, further upgrades just won't be available.

Well, I've already got the new case for my new machine, an Antec SX1030B.

However, the reason for the upgrade is for a linux box or perhaps an inexpensive gift to a neighbor on a fixed income. If, inorder to salvage the box I will end up severely limiting my best options of motherboard, cpu and memory, then it's a very poor investment for the sake of a cheap case.

Yah, I think it's best to just toss it. Even the PSU probably doesn't have the proper hookups.
