Buddy, get what you can afford... if you want something that requires you to wait 1-2 months, then do it... (prices are more than likely to fall...(i myself am kinda hoping for that also)).

there is allot of knowledge here, but there are quite a few fanboys... (no names please!)

i am 90% set on my own system and who knows, in 1-2 months i may add or remove some items...

but to be honest, you are not going to get the "newest" items cheap.... new toys cost money...

its your call and its your dime!!

g/l

edit: and ditch the raptors, you dont need them, worse case get one for gaming (which adds very little to load times (so i been told). myself, atm going with one raptor 36mb and a storage drive..(200+ mb).

drop the o/s and that security thingy.

If you want to stay in the ~1500 range get something like this:

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 90nm
Thermalright XP-90 w/ panaflo fan
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
Leadtek 6800GT
Seagate hard drive (pick w/e size you need)
NEC DVD+RW 3520A Optical drive
Floppy drive (comes in handy)
Antec Sonota w/ 380w PSU
Samsung 997DF 19" Display
Logitech X-530 5.1
Logitech MX510
Logitech Elite keyboard

I have reccomended the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum alot, but lately I have heard alot of good things about the Epox board and heard people get very good OC's. I would check that mobo out

and as for memory, high performance memory is going to do nothing but waste money once again, valueram has a very little difference between high performance, and are you going for pc3200 or what..
I would recommend either http://www.newegg.com/app/View...tion=20-145-440&depa=1 or http://www.newegg.com/app/View...tion=20-144-310&depa=1
I have the geil, and its stable, fast, cheap

As for the power supply, kooldrew a 380 watt will do it sure, but a computer will last longer on a 450+, as your parts get older, they demand more power, which is why its better to get a 450+ which is definitely worth the extra money

Actually I find Incinerates trabachary to be enlightening. Unless you are running dual CPU's or higher, with or without SLI, with water-cooling and 6 case fans, all you need is a 550W power supply. Asisde from Incinerates behaviour he is right!!! I didn't know we were holding peoples hands here.

#1 That Asus cooler is a waste of money. It is not good at all. Just get yourself a Zalman 7700 Series, or a Thermalright cooler with a Panaflo fan. MUCH MUCH better band for your buck.

#2. That Thermal Interface Material (TIM) is a waste of money. Just get some Arctic Silver 5 for cheaper. It is much better.

#3. http://www.newegg.com/app/View...tion=14-127-147&depa=1 : This is much cheaper and a nicer card as well.

#4. THe DVD_RW drive.... the 3520A can be had for cheaper and is a bit better than that as it is a newer model.

You can get the Logitech MX duo for a better price which includes the MX700 mouse (Arguablly one of the best mice out there).

Power Supply: OCZ Mod Stream 450 Watt Power Supply $90.00 This is a nice PSU, but see the next comment:

Case: Lian-LI PC-65B $116.00 While Lian Li cases are awesome, you may not be able to fit it in this budget. For the same price as this, you can get the Antec Sonata, a very nice case which includes a nice Antec True380S PSU. This will power your rig well; you shouldn't need more unless you go with SLIed 6800 Ultras or 5 hard drives.

Motherboard: Chaintech NVF4/Zenith VE $135.00

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ $199.99

Processor Cooling: Asus Star Ice Cpu Cooler $44.99 I'd suggest trying out the stock cooler, as it's quite good at cooling. If you find you need something quieter or more effective, get a Zalman 7000 AlCu. It's cheaper and doesn't look as ugly.

Processor Thermal Paste: Cooler Master HTK-002 High Performance Thermal Compund $10.99 Don't bother replacing the stock heatsink's paste (it's really high-quality Shin-Etsu), but for an aftermarket unit, try Arctic Ceramique or Arctic Silver 5.

Video Card: Albatron PC6600GTV $210.00 This 6600GT is a bit cheaper, and a better brand.

Hard Drives: Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 SATA NCQ $135.00

Memory: Corsair Value Select VS1GBKIT $134.00

Optical Drive: NEC ND-3500A $77.00 The 3520A should be available for this price.

Mouse: Logitech MX 510 Performance Optical Mouse $34.99

Keyboard: Logitech Elite Keyboard $29.88

Speakers: Logitech X-530 $79.95

Display: A good 19" CRT from NEC, Viewsonic, or Samsung should run you about $200-250.

Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional $135.99 Never mind the original comment; see below.

judging by the ram, it looks like you're not going to overclock

you can sacrifice your 3200+ for a 3000+, you'll get some more money for an LCD

and look at the PM i sent you

Looks like a killer system you have there.

The only thing i would change is the case. That way you can have more money for a monitor. Lian Li is very high quality and therefore you pay for it. Get on of the Chiefte/Antec imitation cases, or the a nice antec case. That should save some money which you can use to buy a decent monitor.

I'm curious... why not?
Well many reasons. 1 it is very restricted and lacks many customization options, 2 you cannot trade it in for XP-64 when it comes out you would have to pay, 3 in my experience Pro is much more stable, 4 Home does not support disk spanning or management or Advanced Networking options. Need i go on

I thought that this ram would work good for overclocking, won't it?

It will (if you're referring to just CPU overclocking, anyway; running 1:1 makes little difference versus a divider on the A64)

Well it will out of the box provide excellent performance. However if you plan on OCing the Low Latency high quality RAM will go much farther. The Corsair modules are very nice however and should OC fairly well considering they are value RAM. I have heard of people making it to 235 on that RAM.

I cant understand people buying a $180 keyboard, $250 case, $300 for the dfi board (WHERE on earth did you buy the board for this price ?)..and then settling for a A64 3200 and going with the crappiest video card brand ever, which is XFX
