I am waiting for Corsair XPERT memory to come out, and I need suggestions on a good gaming LCD. Most of all, I want to keep liquid cooling, but I need to reduce the price. Any ideas?
The PCP&C SLI is regularly priced 239.99. Why are you paying an extra 79 bucks? For colored sleeves and connectors? If that's worth to you, fine, but I'd say just get the plain black one (which IMHO, looks badass as it is)
Skip the Power Supply Cooling fan. You don't need it. Trust me. I have a 510-SLI as well. The temps are fine.
I see you're going with a windowed case. I ended up getting the Silverstone TJ03 for 250, and I like it. No window, but then you don't have to worry about people looking at your non-colored PSU wires. Not to mention it has 6 external 5.25 bays, 6 internal 3.5 bays, and is roomy as hell. And it looks clean.
Again, IMHO, the Asus A8N-SLI deluxe looks like a better option at a glance, with 1 more of each PCI and PCIx1 slots and the $100 cheaper cost (roughly). That's what I ended up getting, and again, I like it.
Looks like the watercooled proc is overkill. Up to 300w cooling? I don't think you'll need that with a 3200+. In fact, I'm almost positive. Get a Zalman 7000 ALCU ($35) instead, they even have one with a blue LED in the fan for 2 bucks more, and it looks pretty damn cool. And it's quiet. Not that you'll hear it over the PCP&C, though.
Thermal Paste: Get AS5 (Arctic Silver 5). It's cheaper and better. 'nuff said.
XFX 6800 GT? I thought about getting one of those, and actually put an order through with chumbo. However, I cancelled it (it was back-ordered) once I read the horror stories of XFX's customer service. I would advise going with the BFG 6800 GT OC, if you can find it. Current retail is about $400, and it's overclocked to start with. Not to mention lifetime warranty (even though we all know it'll be obsolete in less than a year, and looked at in horror and disgust in about 5 years) But definately avoid XFX if you can. BFG or eVGA all the way.
Get an OEM Raptor, if you really want one. But get one. Raid 0 in two drives has no noticable performance gains for regular desktop/gaming use. But a much higher chance of data loss. The newegg link posted earlier is probably one of the cheapest, about 175 after tax and shipping and rebate.
Ditch the hard drive cooling. You're not gonna need it.
Skip the plextor and go with the NEC 3520a. It's fast, it's dependable, and it's almost $100 less.
Forget the logitech bluetooth, there's too many bugs in that particular bluetooth keyboard. In fact, skip bluetooth altogether on the keyboard and mouse, unless you're gonna be ridiculously far away from your computer. The regular cordless MX Duo with the MX 700 bundled mouse is a much better option, and it's 80 bucks cheaper.
Get some better speakers! The logitech 5500s, or the Klipsch Promedia Ultra 5.1s (I have the latter and they sound awesome. I also have the accompanying monster cable wiring and matching stands) But that means spending more money. Your choice.
XP 64? $400? Are you insane? You shouldn't be spending even close to that much on an OS. Get an OEM version at ZZF or Monarch, or SOMEONE. OEM Win XP Pro, though. You're not going to get a huge benefit from running a 64 bit OS right now anyways, there's not enough hardware/software support yet, as the OS hasn't taken off yet.
PC-cillin is a decent anti-virus, but I'd recommend skipping it in favor of grisoft's free AVG 7.0 Free Edition. It's the same or better, and you don't have to pay for it. Ever. Ever ever ever ever ever.
As long as we're talking about PC protection and free-ness, also pick up Spybot Search and Destroy, Spywareblaster, and the latest version of Ad-Aware, which are all also free as well. I'd also recommend picking up a copy of Webroot's SpySweeper, as it's certainly demonstrated its usefulness to me. That's an extra 30 bucks though. Or 20 less. Depends on how you look at it.
Total savings if you go by my recommendations, and do not spend any MORE:
1044
Yes. That's a good thousand dollars of savings.
Oh, and here's a free tip: Avoid buying directly from the manufacturer unless they're selling it for less than MSRP (which, chances are, they're not) Often times they'll charge more than most retailers, and you can save money by shopping around. Most retailers charge less than MSRP, I've noticed. Here's a few good ones:
www.chumbo.com (free fedex two-day shipping! Awesomeness)
www.newegg.com (but be careful, you'll probably have to pay tax, and definately shipping)
www.zipzoomfly.com (Also 2-day fedex shipping. Some items are ludicrously expensive, some are cheap. Just look around)
www.monarchcomputer.com
I got all my parts from the above websites (and some random cables and adapters from fry's)
When in doubt about whether or not a price is fair, froogle it.
www.froogle.com
Froogle is your friend. Froogle saved me hundreds of dollars. Froogle can help you too. Really.
And last but not least... I am not an authority on anything! But I DID just build a new computer, and I spent about 2000 on it, so I figure you can do the same. I also did tons of research. Probably not enough, but tons. I cannot stress enough the importance of research, ESPECIALLY when you're ready to drop 3 Gs on a system.
Good luck!
