Can I upgrade a "My Favorite PC" Celeron 400, equipped w/a i810chipset?

My second "upgrade a retail computer" question in two days. I want to upgrade my friends i810 chipset, "My Favotite PC", with a Celeron 800mhz cpu. When I installed ram for him, I recall seeing a jumper to change fsb speed from 66mhz to 100mhz, and remember some people in the forums able to get their 400`s to run at 600mhz. Have any of you guys tried running a Celeron II in these?

Better make sure that the motherboard supports the required 1.7 volts for the processor. Most of the older motherboards don't support that low of voltage. Check to see if the BIOS can be flashed to provide the proper voltage to the processor. If it is an 810E chipset, you should be okay, as they are supposed to be able to support the 1.5 volts required for the FCPGA coppermines. Hopefully the motherboard manufacturer will be more responsive than Soyo. Am still waiting for a response to a similar question E-Mailed to their support section back in early April! :disgust:

I thought that the 810 chipset would only accept ppga celerons up to 533? And the 810e would accept the FCPGA chips (PIII or Celeron II).

I dont think you can do it but I am not 100% sure. I had an old HP Pavilion 400mhz celeron. It had an 810 board and also had a 66/100 FSB jumper but the highest CPU it could take was a Celeron 533 PPGA. Pentium3s and celeron2s didnt work. However someone told me that I could use that little adapter for celeron2s. I forget what it was called but you put it in the socket and then put the new chip into that adapter. Never tried though. I ended up getting a 366 celeron, changed to 100fsb and overclocked it. Much faster than the old 400. I dont know about your motherboard, but mine didnt have voltage adjustments so it had to run default.

I think what you are talking about is a .Neo S370 Adaptor. I was thinking about getting one back when I had an abit bp6. I never did though.
