Can I use 2 sound sources??

Ok heres the deal. I am getting a MB with onboard sound and I also have an SB live to use with it.l It is possible for me to use both sources at teh same time. My idea was to use the onboard sound for my regular computer speakers and use the Live's 5.1 connections on my receiver for higher quality stuff.

It can be done but it isn't easy and not recommended. I recommend you go with the 5.1 and save the system resources as well as headaches for something more useful

You would be much better off using JUST the SBLive! and buying some nice splitters from Radio Shack, run the Live! to both your computer speakers AND your reciever

it sure can be done.

lots of people who do Digital Audio Recording with Computers use 2 sound cards.

one usually being multi i/o card.
and the other one for monitoring.

YES it can bedone i have it my self HOWEVER!!! 2 regular cards , likd stated before use the same resorsed so unless you have a card that has setable resource listings or a secondary sound psecificaly designed to used other resorces(like my roland and my trutal beach)
then it will be VERRY hard to set up
just disable your built in sound and be done with it.

Wow I didn't think it would take up noticable resources. The reason I wanted to do this is so I could have two different output styles. If I just spilt my primary speaker output on my SBLIVE and send it to my stereo tv by itself and my card is in 5.1 mode then wont the sound sound out of sync cause there wont be any other speakers around to "fullfill" the total sound?
