I'm fairly sure I can't, so what's the easiest way to convert my itunes purchased music into a format that works with the windows 7 phone?

....Or am I better off keeping my iphone and using it purely as an ipod?

I recommend using old iPhone as your media player.
Also, this is why I prefer DRM free music. Even better if I can just drag and drop files, (which I cant with the Zune so I'll be returning it).

I don't have a Windows Phone device so I cannot test but here's what I've gathered from the internets.

Windows Phone natively supports AAC. iTunes Plus (DRM-Free) has been standard since the middle of 2009 so anything purchased from that time and now should be playable on your Windows Phone with no need for conversion.

Anything that is locked with DRM can be "upgraded" for 30 cents a piece through iTunes.

Basically, if your music collection is DRM free, you can probably just use the Windows Phone software to sync and manage your AAC files.

This is correct. There are only a handful of songs that won't sync to my WinMoPho, and those are older DRMed iTunes files. Everything else plays just fine.

The WP7 Zune players is much better than the iPhone iPod app. It's not even close to being as good as the ZuneHD.

That said I'm currently trying to find a new mp3 player since neither the iPhone or WP7 phone have enough storage or work well enough. The ZuneHD is almost exactly what I'm looking for but I can't justify buying another one now.

So what do you guys use to manage music?

As much as I used to hate itunes, I've gotten to where I don't mind it. I have numerous airport devices spread through my home, so itunes is gonna stick with me for awhile.

Arg, I've been sucked in.

I'll agree Zune is better than iTunes but I've had both and didnt find anything pleasant about either.
I'd much prefer simple file drag and drop. Am still looking for a modern player that does this.

I organize everything using folders, use the Zune software to tag and syncing my phone and iTunes for playback at home. I really don't like iTunes but the combination of airplay and the remote apps are tough to match.
