My friend has a small business with around 10 computers. All are on peer-to-peer.
One certain employee (his mom) is slacking on the job due to internet usage. He wants to use a password on her computer to access internet explorer. She still must have access to the network due to accounting software..etc.
Is XP Home capable of this?? Or is there another way to do it??

Thanks!!

He could always use a firewall to block her.

Or slightly "dirtier", if it's a LAN with just one subnet, remove the default route, shoud let the comp speak to other computers on the same subnet, but not to anything else.

But really, it's very rare to find good technical solutions to disciplinary problems.

You can deny read access to iexplore.exe for her user account.

Or block outbound requests to port 80 from her computer.

Just install Service Pack 1 and then go to the Add/Remove Programs bit on the control panel, then go to add/remove windows componets inside of that.

SP1 allows you to remove IE from your machine.

lol, cute... however, i agree with what Sunner has stated. I would go to the networking properties for mom's pc and just let it have it get an ip address and subnet, but leave the GATEWAY field blank. That way, she should have no problems whatsover talking to other machines on the network, and no chance to getting onto the Internet. No need to uninstall IE either, as no program will make outbound connections.

good luck!

If it is set to " get automatically" it will get a gateway. you will need to do a manual setup, but that is well worth it

Couldn't you set IE to use a bogus proxy server? I think that is what the company my wife works for did to prevent excessive internet browsing on the job.
