I had been working for 10 years on an old TN matrix Dell 3007 bought in 2006 and never had any unpleasant feelings.

Bought a new IPS monitor (38UC99-W) a few weeks ago and can't work or game fom more than an hour, i start getting vertigo and nausea.

Bot displays run at 60hz.

What is going on? Can IPS matrix cause such symptoms?

I see that model is a Freesync model, I have heard of freesync panels having flickering issues (even "flicker free" panels) with certain refresh rates, you might try enabling/disabling freesync and playing around with different refresh rates.

I just upgraded from a 24" TN to a 29" IPS freesync ultrawide, got some nausea too, but I figured it was because it's much wider, so more of the screen is in the peripheral vision.

I play assetto corsa with the screen very close, let my dad try it and he got nausea in half a lap

Try playing @ 16:9 resolution with black bars on each side. If it is the extra width causing the nausea, then you shouldn't get nauseous @ 16:9.

I have an Nvidia card so Freesync is always off.

Yes, LED monitors using PWM can cause the symptoms described, but your particular monitor is assessed as flicker free.

Check out the Backlight Dimming and Flicker discussion section of the evaluation for your monitor at TFTCentral ( http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/lg_38uc99.htm ).

To determine if there is an issue, take a full sized wooden pencil (or chop stick) and wave it in front of your monitor while staring at it. (Preferably do this in a darkened room.) Wave it back & forth rapidly like a windshield wiper blade. You should not see the object strobe. If you do, then there is flicker and that can, over time, result in the symptoms which you describe. Flicker with LED systems typically is worse at low brightness levels.

Your monitor should be flicker free, but as mentioned, there may be some setting or mode that has been enabled that is resulting in flicker. Try different modes & settings including refresh rates using the pencil wiper test described above to determine if there are noticeable changes related to strobing.

The only thing I can think of is that maybe he has the "1ms blur reduction" option enabled, that turns on backlight strobing. Although, you can't turn it on at all when running at 60 Hz, only 75Hz

The 38UC99 is definitely PWM-free. I'm sensitive to PWM myself.

Is the naseau from gaming or just office work? If its the latter, does it only occur on certain colored backgrounds or text color?
