Im bloody annoyed that they seem to be sidelining volunteers that have given years to the running of this forum though.

Listen to our mods and admins! They have been keeping this place going for ages, you shouldn't swan in and ignore them!
+1 this
Most mods and admin are even here before "future plc" or those "purch" snobs knew the very existence of this forum.

UNSUBSCRIBE me pls.

Folks, I am working on getting this done.
I have sent emails and PMs to who I think are people that can
get some results here.

The mods have nothing to do with Future so I am working with what little sway that I might have
collected over the years.
Please be patient.

Looking forward to this. Thank you!

Welcome to your latest Weekly Review!

We start off with a pretty big story in the world of chipmakers. Softbank is looking to make some moves concerning Arm, which they bought for about $42 billion in 2016. They’ve hired Goldman Sachs to explore options including a sale and spinning out as part of an IPO. Read more and discuss over at this thread.

Sticking with chipmakers, one massive name has been eclipsed. Intel is no longer the most valuable US graphics component manufacturer in the U.S. Head over to this thread to find out who now claims that throne!

We wrap things up this week with a question: how do you get rid of micro scratches on a mobile phone? Is it even possible? You can find out and discuss here.

This may seem like a tiny event in the grand scheme of things, but I consider it a turning point for the community. I understand your experience says patience and polite discourse have the best chance to fix it, but experience also teaches us this kind of behavior has deeper roots and will escalate. For now the community's reaction is to accommodate to this new reality with a crash course on cognitive dissonance:

Just because I can jump through a hoop to maybe unsubscribe does not make it anything but SPAM.

For the first time since I joined this forum I decided to look into the privacy terms to find out Future is UK / EEA based and quite close to GDPR influence. This means unsolicited & repeated communication is not a good idea at all, at least for EU based users. The user consent form is also lacking some mandatory GDPR options. I still can't believe I would have to spend this much energy to mitigate such a stupid little thing, but I guess the asymmetry is what allowed this animated GIF pinata to be born in the first place.

If Future wants this engagement drive private messaging NotSpam™ to continue, do it properly with automated systems, proper privacy consent, opt-in and unsubscribe mechanics. Or don't do it at all.

Howdy, folks! So, first and foremost, I'd like to apologise for the delay on this. I wasn't mindful enough of this thread and should've been. I will make sure to check in MUCH more regularly to prevent people who have unsubscribed from getting these newsletter messages.

Second, everyone that's posted on this thread up to today has been unsubscribed. My apologies for any frustration caused. Again, I'll be sure to come back to this thread much more frequently and unsubscribe all who ask. Thank you to the mods for posting and keeping up with this thread. I should have responded sooner and that's on me.

Have a good one, guys.

How about instead you unsubscribe everyone from your crap spam attack and put in a button that offers to automatically sign you up for free spam attacks. Maybe if there was a button already in place that would let you know that people want to be spammed with needless crap.

Oh wait there is

I cant believe we have to come to the forum and post in a thread just to opt out of this crap spam. In what idiotic world do you opt in all forum members to a spam attack and then force them to post in a thread to opt out. Whoever thought this was a good idea should get fired and banned.

After being here almost 18 years I only came to this sub forum to make a post before deleting my account because of no way to stop the unwanted spam. I only hope that this really low life decision to spam all members comes to an end and that somebody starts checking into the legality of forced spam messages with no unsubscribe option.

I would also like to thank @esquared @UsandThem and the entire mod team for all they do and all they have to put up with because of the pee poor decisions by those above them.

In case you didnt get the hint.

UNSUBSCRIBE ME from your unwanted and unsolicited spam.

Unsubscribe me. I'll echo what most of the rest have said. These types of things should be opt-in, not opt-out.

You already posting in that thread to remove your name.
Creating another thread does not help.
(Replying here because the other thread is locked.)

This thread here is about individuals wanting to opt out.
That thread there is about ending the practice of forum digests being sent as Personal Messages.

It's a difference.
Hence I posted to a separate thread.

Anyway; others have asked for the latter already, and used this thread here although it is a different matter.
Actually, going back to the first page I am now even suspecting that this thread was originally opened to discuss the very topic of ending this practice altogether: Have moderators changed the title of this thread?

Summary:
  • I don't care whether there is a way to unsubscribe from spam.
  • I care about PMs not being misused to spam the users.
Clearer now?

PS:
I find spam infuriating and insulting. And you know what? I find spam with an unsubscribe option infuriating and insulting too. Maybe some users don't, but I do, and others seem to too.

Unsubscribe me as well plz.

And next time perhaps inquire first before subscribing us to a PM spam-list without our permission?

I find it a bit strange that one must unsubscribe from something one never subscribed to.

Nothing personal to whomever's idea it was.

If you asked nicely first I might even have said okay!

*(not likely but hey you never know!)

After reporting the spam as spam, I received this. I'm not permitted to reply directly to it, so I'll reply here:

It's unsolicited, so yes, it's spam. I already tried to unsubscribe, and failed. Your link isn't even to anything helpful.

p.s. What good tech forums are there now? Most of the ones I have frequented in the past are long dead, and I prefer not to use centralised services like Reddit.

Sorry. I put the wrong link in. My bad. It should have been the link to this thread.

To be fair its not like they signed you up for a beast-porn mailing list !!!

It's annoying spam at the worst not malicious at all.

And this IS still a good tech-site/forum.
