Im doing a project of turning a Dell optiplex 9010 into a gaming pc that can run games like Gta V at a solid 60 fps for $150 inc. Buying the optiplex and gpu and extra 4gb ram obv. Used parts. I have found a nice rx 470 4gb so will it all fit without shortage in psu power and no need to upgrade the psu? Here are the links.ps. if there are better parts or notes please link them below.

Yeah, looks like you're getting a "fat" optiplex, so you should be fine in terms of space. You almost certainly will need to upgrade the PSU or put your fate into God's hands with a 6/8 pin GPU power dongle.

Most office computers are heavily overbuilt on CPU power while being woefully underbuilt everywhere else (PSU, Graphics, Storage, RAM, etc).

That computer's PSU will likely not even come with the appropriate power connector for the 570 and will likely be just enough to power the computer up with it's stock components (250-300w).

Might be able to get away with a GPU that draws all its power from the PCI-E slot, however.

- No, I'm not your personal shopper so I'm not going to shop around for a card that fits your price !

However, I can tell you that the best card w/o a power connector currently is the 1650, but for a lower price you can probably find GTX 1050's that are still reasonable 1080p cards for a decent price ($20 bucks incl. Shipping is a stretch though).

For AMD, you're looking at an RX560 or Rx550 for cards without a power connector, but they often perform worse than 1050 variants (Ti).

But do these cards need an upgrade on the psu? If so do you have any cheaper alternitaves like the gtx 960?
Also sorry if it came out like that

-No problem, I didn't take it personal or anything .

Any of those cards will work with the 75w of power delivered by the PCI-e port, and while I would still recommend a PSU upgrade at some point, you can make due for the time being.

If you're considering something older than that, I would actually recommend an alternative: see if you can pick up a computer with an AMD 2400G or even a 2200G processor in your price range, preferably with duel channel 3000/3200 memory.

The CPU has an integrated GPU in it that is likely better and cheaper than the really old 950 cards, while still giving you room to expand in the future as you save up. It's really a great intro gaming processor is you're on an extremely tight budget.

A word of caution here, the LGA 1155 platform is notorious for having compatibility issues with modern graphics cards since they started using UEFI. And the issue has typically required a BIOS update to solve, which OEM motherboards from Dell and the likes never get.

If the PSU lacks a PCI-E power connector, it should work with a Molex adapter. I've always seen recommendations against it, but I've also been in the spot where I want an upgrade without having to double the cost, and in all cases the molex adapter has worked fine.

Does the Optiplex have "standard" anything?

There is no such thing as "replace one component" in OEM. Custom PSU with custom connectors to custom motherboard.

Thnx but i think ill try to go with a gtx 960 so just in conclusion you are saying that a gtx 960 or 1050 (ti) or rx 470 or 550 can work with the dell optiplex 9010 without upgrading or buying anything else right?
Also Thank you for your fast responses

-You'll want to be careful with the 960 since many models require additional power, but yes any card that does not require additional power connectors from the PSU (6 or 8 pin power) should be able to work ok with the meager PSU of any variety of Optiplex.

Also remember to double check to see if other people have used a similar GFX card in your model in the past. I have hear horror stories of people trying cards without an external power source in dells and them not working because the boards don't follow the spec close enough and if the GFX card wants the full 75w it won't work.
