It's impossible to hit a mine on the first try. I think the mines are layed out after you first click.

BUT does the later version of windows Minesweeper also code it so that you don't run into the NEED to guess.
My answer is the same to both of you. There are custom games.

Try this: 9x9 grid with 64 mines as an extreme example. You will NEED to guess more than once.

With most versions of Klondike, there are hands that cannot be won, no matter how you play.

Imagine this: in the pile with 7 cards, at the very bottom is an ace. On top of that ace are 4 kings. On top of those kings is a queen. All of these are face down. You cannot move that queen since you have no king to move it to. Thus you will never get to that ace. You cannot win, no matter how you play.

I am still having to guess at the max grid size with 225 mines (7 years now)

What do you mean by "flawed"? If some people enjoy the game, then it serves its purpose. I thereby consider that to be not "flawed".

No, not impossible. But there are times where you have to make a 50/50 guess and there is no evidence pointing either way. If you have to make ten 50/50 guesses in a difficult Minesweeper game, then you have a 0.1% chance of winning even if you do everything perfectly.

it's definately not .1%

Oh, I'm so sorry. 1/2^10 = 0.0976563%. Is that extra precision so much better? Or did you just misinterpret what I posted?

0.09765625% is close enough to .1%

Lets think it through.
[*]I posted at 8:15 pm, and edited at 8:15 pm on the same day.
[*]You posted at 4:30 pm the next day.
[*]...

I think I'll believe you. You saw my post in the <1 minute before I edited, then you waited one day to post since it was so incredulous that I edited my post.

When opening Minesweeper, type in xyzzy Enter (numeric keypad) Left shift. Look in the top left corner of your screen for a cheat pixel. Your friend's ex-girlfriend is obviously using this.

It works with WinXP too - I just tried for the first time with XP! I fooled many people using this cheat with Win98 (and maybe Win95 too)

edit: Other old-timers (which includes me) may remember the "xyzzy" code from the mainframe game "Adventure".

Just played 2 games in a row where I was knocked out with legal moves. No other possible moves available and yet the game ended.

I admire your spirit, but perhaps you should have posted your complaint in some Microsoft forum somewhere?

i'm fairly certain that solitare can be impossible to solve if you play the 3 card variant

What about Freecell. Microsoft used to say that no one knows if every game is possible to finish. Why can't they just use one of their big computers to see if that's true?
