Can not play 80% of PC Games and just upgraded. Please HELP

Assuming your PSU isn't the issue windows 7 64 bit is probably your problem. I suspect that ati just never bothered getting it working properly with such an old card.

Dual boot XP 32 bit and use that for games would probably be the least painful way of working until you get a new card.

It's not Win7 x64 ,I have most of those games he meantioned and run fine on my Win7 x64 Ultimate with my ATI 4870 card.
Update DX9.0c to latest version from Microsoft or from filehippo http://www.filehippo.com/download_directx/ .

Check all drivers are updated,run Memtest86+ to confirm your memory is fine,try a different video card ( faster newer card if possible) which will also rule out a faulty card.
Run a full scan with anti-virus and free program like Malwarebytes anti-malware to rule out any possible virus infection too.

You don't need XP for gaming,I can run even old 16 bit Dos games in Win7 x64 via Dosbox.

It's possible your video card doesn't support some of the things that these newer games need. It's not just about speed, the feature set matters too.

Underpowered graphics cards don't cause games to crash. They cause games to run more slowly. X1950 PRO (the slowest X1950 variant) is roughly equivalent to HD 4650 (DDR2).

2. Overclocked? Return to defaults on everything.

Yea, I'd recommend installing 3DMark03/05/06 and comparing your scores against similar systems in the ORB.
That should give you a reasonable indication of whether or not the card/drivers are performing the way they should.

Obviously DX10+-only games aren't going to work on your card, but I doubt that 80% of the games you tried don't support DX9.

dude, I am running my quad core 6600 with ati x1900 card as well. Tell me all the games you are playing and I can tell you if I have had any problems with those. That way the question of the video card not supporting some of the games will be cleared!

btw I have had no problems like the ones your describe so far. I do get a lower frame rate, but nothing like a blank screen. On the other hand, I am running it on a vista 32bit.

also as someone mentioned, upgrade directx, very important.

also run stress test , if you have a built in diagnostic on your bios for checking problems like the dell. then do that too

Another issue is custom installers that may not be compatible with a 64-bit OS (they may conclude that the installer is not compatible with the OS, while in reality the game would just work fine, if you could just install it).

An earlier generation of installers was actually 16-bit binaries, and the 64-bit Windows lack the 16-bit environment.

But yes, the copy protection implementations are not among the well supported bits.

I would try reseating your video card. This means to remove the video card from the motherboard slot and then plug it back in. Also remove and re-insert the power-supply cable into the card.

Sorry for the delay in responses. I went to sleep then to work. My power supply is the antec True power 750. Windows 7 was a clean install. I ran the stress test everything looked good the GPU was lower than the newer cards.

Basically I removed the Video card and went with the on Board GPU and the games worked. But are pretty much unplayable due to the performance. All of the drivers were up do date including DirectX. The OS was installed fine Im just guessing that the video card was missing some features that those games needed. Alot of the newer games worked great with the card. Doesnt make sense but whatever I guess its time for a new Card. I felt like I just spent a bundle for this one ...Maybe it was a few years back after all...

If MASS Effect 2 works. Then your video card is not busted and works fine.

Like they said you got limitations bothering you with these other games.

I would suggest going to a older ATI driver like version 8 or something,,,

You should grab a 9800GT for 80 to 100 dollars and then youll be flying high but your CPU might bottleneck so its a catch 22.... anyhow good luck.. I think older drivers might just fix your problems. good luck

The more likely problem is that AMD/ATI has not released a newer driver for the X1000 and other "legacy" products since Catalyst 10.2, which is about six months old. Further, AMD does not officially support legacy products on Windows 7.

Correct, there is no 'real' Windows 7 driver. It's just the Vista driver.
But that doesn't matter. The differences for Windows 7 drivers are aimed at DX10+, and this is a DX9 card anyway. Windows 7 is perfectly backwards compatible with Vista drivers.

Since it's DX9-only, it doesn't really matter that the drivers are six months old either.

Yea, I mentioned the same earlier... But I don't recall if that was 10.2 or an earlier version.
So I don't know if they'll install out-of-the-box.
