I am so stressed out and lost I have no clue what to do.....

I wanted to build myself a new graphics editing system to fully utilize Adobe CS5 Master Collection, primarily focused on using Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects and Encore along with others and AutoCAD 3DS Max.

I already bought:
Coolermaster Haf X 942
Corsair AX1200
msi Big Bang Xpower II LGA2011 X79
Intel Core i7 3960X Extreme
8-dinn of Kingston 4Gb HyperX Red
H100 liquid cooler w/ 4 Cougar push pull 120mm
Nactua 120mm addition cooling
2- PNY Quadro 4000
4- Seagate 1TB 7200 baracuda drives for RAID 0 off motherboard
480GB SSD Kingston HyperX
2-120GB SSD Kingston HyperX for scratch disk
Creative Recon3D fatality audio card with front panel adapter
Dell U2711 IPS panel one for now till I can afford another I have other monitors to use for multi display in the mean time.

The problem that ruined my life... Quadro 4000's don't use SLI; Quadro 5000's and 6000's are only SLI capable in specific certified systems from Dell and Linovo ect...

I ALREADY HAVE A SYSTEM I DON'T WANT TO BUY ANOTHER.

All the above are new components most are special order and none have even felt electricity.

I need help to build a system to accomplish my goals; what I thought was a simple task has ruined a good portion of my continuum.... And left me in debt with an expensive papeweight.

Any help or advice?

First off.. sell the 2 Quadro's and buy yourself a newer single high-end gfx card. You'll still have gfx accelleration for the programs/tasks you'll be doing with this rig. Up to 3 monitors should still be fine as well.

Next up.. storage arrangement.

480GB HyperX as boot drive, although I would have rec'd 2 x 240GB in raid for that rig due to the speed/IOPS increases you'd have seen over that slower single 480GB. Optional: sell that as well and buy 2 x 240GB HyperX's to run from the Intel 6G chip in raid0.

Buy a LSI 9260-4i or Highpoint 2720 to run those smaller HyperX's in R0 for scratch duty.

4 x Cuda's in R0 off the Intel 3G ports.

1 or 2 larger single HDD/s running off the remaining raidcards ports for dedicated backup duty due to the increased potential for data loss with R0. Although pitifully slow.. an external HDD would be good rather than running it/them off the raidcards remaining ports as well. Keep the egg's in seperate baskets.. and all that.

Another option/concern would be having a secondary OS install slipped into the mix somewhere(I run 3) since that will give seamless operation if you do not have time to immediately deal with recovery or OS related issues. I'd probably install another OS to the scratch duty SSD's(because they too will be ultra fast).. or more simple would be to just install all that you need to the 480GB(or whatever you end up with for the main OS volume).. and then image a copy of that to the raided HDD's with seperate partitions for storage duty. This will give you the option of just changing your boot order to continue on with life until you have time to sort out any issues that may arise during your work sessions. Also helps with ease of maintenance and troubleshooting when you have seperate OS volumes running from seperate sata chips and/or devices.

Hope that helps.

PS. I too am building a similar rig(with a cheaper 3930) and will have 3 raidcards.

1 specifically for data redundancy(4 x 1TB).

1 for HDD storage(8 x 500GB).

And one with 6(possibly 8) SSD for dedicated scratch duty.

The primary OS volume will be located onboard comprised of 4 x 6G SSD's spanning the Intel 6G and 3G ports. Won't matter one little bit that they are all downclocked to sata2 since the chip will be saturated with anything more than 2 x 6G SSD's due to the chips sequential/IOPS limit anyways. Fast either way.

I'll start with 32 gigs of ram but also(eventually) use all 64 gigs of capacity for ram caching software. This can also be split amongst the storage and scratch volumes to form hybrid volumes to aid in improved efficiency of redundantly accessed data.

That rig should keep me satisfied for several years regardless of what hardware advancements may come next. Especially considering that my brain, multitasking, and typing skills will surely be the largest bottlenecks with a system like that.

Do you think that triple SLI GTX680's will out perform one Quadro 5000?

might want to ask that same question over in that section of the forum.. but I could not imagine that the 5000 series is powerful enough to best 3 of those cards. Probably not even close.
