Dare I ask the question that begs to be asked every time we celebrate another culture's diversity? In the armed forces we have a heritage month for all "minorities" including but not limited to Asian Pacific Islander's, African American's, Hispanic's, Women, etc. Why do we not celebrate those who are not so"exotic" to currently warrant a heritage month? Even more so that we do not celebrate any months that appreciate what the male sex has done for science, politics, and the economy? Just curious if anyone else sees the problem, or if I'm the only one complaining about it?

Bloody cowards, no one is willing to duke it out with me. Not one person feels that being a straight white male is worth of recognition? Wow, bunch of rascists!

Racsim: A belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
This can be proven if you look at how colleges give out scholarships, or how people are hired in a company. Employer's have to go out of their way to fill their quota of minorites for a set workcenter. They way that it should be accomplished is through a triple blind employment process, you don't have physical proof of the person's appearance, how their voice sounds, or even their name. Candidates for a job interview would be identified only by their number and would be restricted to using (TTS) to answer interview questions. This expedites the hiring process and further eliminates Affirmative Action by shutting down all that claim racial or sexual discrimination.

I just got a company wide email celebrating Black History month, it included a triva quiz that we then got another email about 45min later with the answers. I am actually getting beyond annoyed at this point with all of the PC bullshit from my company. So with out going on a 1 page rant, I will simply say I agree with your sentiments sonicdrummer

This seems like making a mountain out of a mole hill. Let's for the moment take your argument on face value, and say that all of these heritage months are useless (I might dispute that--see the Obama Effect, for example). What does having them really do to you? The most egregious effect I've seen so far seems to be that someone got two extra emails in their inbox.

I encourage you to start celebrating upper middle class white male heritage month starting in April. I suggest displaying your heritage by wearing a green cardigan all month. Perhaps if others see that it is of value, they'll join you. My guess is that no one will care.

I would agree but then we would both be wrong.

My point is this. We waste so much time making everyone feel special that we never actually accomplish anything, not to mention the hours/tax dollars spent to create special ceremonies for this nonsense. All this still trying to make up for whatever we might have done to someone that you may or may not resemble is silly.

How much time and money do we really spend? I'm pretty sure I've spent more time responding to this thread than I've spent on minority heritage months in the past year. As for money, if you were to add up all the government-sponsored events, you'd probably get a lot of money for you or me, but an immensely small amount of money per taxpayer (I'm guessing about 10 cents, or 32 million total).

That's the thing I don't get about the majority of conservatives. They want to cut the government, but always focus on small-bore discretionary spending issues. You could completely eliminate discretionary spending and we'd still be running a deficit. If you want to cut spending, you need to attack medicare/medicaid, defense, or social security. The problem is that these three sections are exceptionally popular, and very few in this country really want to cut them.

In response to the second paragraph I would say we need to discontinue Social Security for anyone under the age of 35 from today forward. You would continue to pay a portion of the tax but it would be reduced. As older people start to die off more money becomes available for the living to consume. After they pass away this great burden will be gone and the younger generation will not be left with the bill. Everyone who does not receive SS will be able invest in their own 401(K).
