you roll your eyes at mw3 but bf3 is just the same thing with new skins...
i don't don't understand how you can either be so blind or hypocritical, other than you are a fanboy.

and you're gonna come back and call me a mw3 fanboy so i'll head that off now and say that i would be posting this whether it was mw3 and bf3 or C&C 12 vs WC12 or Diablo 4 vs. Torchlight 4

ah more pontiflex bf trolling

an entire new graphics engine is not 'new skins'

new graphics, big whoop? might as well be new skins for all that adds to the game.

we've got tons of threads about how graphics don't make a game good. if its going to be the same gameplay as every other bf game, then i'm not interested.

Since BF2, new mode of play introduced - Rush. Destructible environments introduced. And the removal of the Commander function are just three huge changes to the game and only a troll would call them a new skin.

doesn't change the basic gameplay elements.

LOL. Then every military FPS is a skin of the original. Keep trolling!

who are you trying to kid here? there are obvious differences between basic gameplay elements between all fps games.

I don't enjoy the ones in the BF series, namely weak and inaccurate guns, huge maps that take forever to get anywhere, lack of vehicles for all players to use/greedy or inconsiderate teammates. I give reasons why i don't like a game that I HAVE ACTUALLY PLAYED, unlike the trolls who go "lulz, CoD sucks!"

I like the gameplay that the CoD series provides.

I'm not a CoD fanboy or a troll. I don't go around making new threads stating I don't like BF like some people do with CoD. I post in existing threads discussing the games, usually after someone bashes a CoD and then praises a BF game despite them doing the same things.

This is a forum right? Just because I don't like you're beloved game doesn't make me a troll. If anything, you people constantly railing on CoD are the trolls. We heard it when MW2 was released, then we heard it when Black Ops was released.

I didn't like Black Ops. I don't know that I'll like MW3 or if I'll even buy MW3. I know I won't buy BF3 because I don't like the game play style it provides. Seems opposite of what a fanboy is.

The only thing I can say is that I'm tired of people bashing one game over the other when both series do the same things. It just so happens that you BF fanboys constantly bash CoD for stuff that BF does also or you supposedly never played the games you are bashing.

The thinly veiled personal attacks against people who like one game over another are getting old too. "You have to be an idiot to buy MW3 over BF3" or "BF3 is a deep game" or "BF3 requires thinking". It's bullshit, both games are full of people who are just running around shooting people, there's no more thinking in one game than the other.

I'm not into CoD and I'm hyped up like crazy for BF3 but I agree with pontifex. BF fanboys have such a superiority complex, it's annoying as hell. And I'm getting utterly sick of PC gamers using the word CoD as if it were a personal insult - "go back to CoD you noob" etc. It's pathetic.

Again, here you would be completely wrong. Strategy, team play is required in both games but more so in BF. Being able to take a squad of six(keeping the squad leader alive) around the enemy to control the Hotel in Sharqi Pennisula in BF2 can turn around a round of 64 players by being able to control the other team's assets.

For scrims and league play, strategy is almost as important as skill, especially when skill is usually equal on both sides for both both games but again, more so in BF.

In 64 player scrims, I've been involved with playing on several different maps, we'd spend a week mocking-up maps with specific instructions for each of the different squads based on their skill set to perform key roles in the scrim. Be it, defending key points to being dropped behind enemy lines to take over specific key points.

How can you NOT do that in the CoD games? There's CTF, Search and Destroy, Sabotage and Domination which is like what the BF is.

BF games only have 2 gameplay modes. CoD games have like 20, although some are just the same with the Hardcore rules.

My two cents:

If you like large-scale maps, vehicles, environmental destruction, tactics, and squad combat, buy Battlefield 3.

If you like more close-quarters, infantry-oriented, run-around-in-circles-and-shoot-people-in-the-face type of gameplay, then buy Modern Warfare 3.

It depends on your preferred style of play.

I'm not dissing on CoD here either. And yes, I agree that BF3 fans are far more rabid than CoD fans. Me? I used to be in the BF3 camp, but now I'll be buying neither. Here's why:

I'm not buying MW3 for obvious reasons (Too fast-paced and twitch-based for me, same damn game from 4 years ago, and Activision is evil.) Also, it's sixty dollars.

I'm not buying BF3 because EA can go suck a dick, their pre-order bonus shenanigans were shameful, and they're removing their games from Steam now. (That's one thing MW3 has over BF3: it will actually be on Steam. Hurr durr.) It's like EA is basically saying: "We don't like money. We're going to cut off thousands of gamers from our demographic by not using Steam. Derp."

Oh and also, it's sixty dollars.

Most people here are obviously Battlefield fans, because it's a PC Gaming forum, and naturally there will be more BF3 advocates. In a thread like this I can always expect Pontifex to come and defend CoD, while making the same points over and over about why he hates BF. Again, I'm not dissing on him; it's nice to see someone on the other side every once in a while.

Pontifex, the only problem I see with your argument is the whole "Teammates always steal vehicles, it takes forever to walk anywhere, etc, etc". This is simply not the case if you play on a server with half-decent players, with a group of good teammates. From what I can tell, you've only played BF with retards. And for that, I apologize. BC2 is a legitimately good game, it really is. I just think you got the wrong impression from it.

Conclusion: You could probably find a game that at the same time is both cheaper and more fun than either MW3 or BF3. You could save money and stop promoting dick companies like EA and Activision.

My two alternatives would be:

Red Orchestra 2. It's hardcore and it's only $40.
Team Fortress 2. It does "run around and circles and shoot people in the face" much better than CoD, and it's free.

Ok. That's all. You can either heed my advice or totally ignore everything I say. I think I just needed to vent more than anything.

I really don't give a crap whether someone likes one game over the other. I've mentioned why i don't like the bf games.

my biggest issue is the lies and bs and hypocrisy from the BF "fans" about CoD. I'm just trying to provide balance most of the time.

10 if you count hardcore modes as different modes (like you did for CoD).

oh, i had to look at wiki for both games and the one for BC2 didn't mention hardcore modes that I could see and I haven't played BC2 for a long time to remember that there was a hardcore mode.

I have to give Dice/EA a ton of credit for actually releasing a demo (or open beta, whatever they want to call it) for BF3. That's out of the norm for gaming these days and personally I really appreciate a chance to try before I buy. I never did buy BF2 but I played the hell out of the demo and decided it wasn't quite right for me.

What I'm not thrilled about is the inevitable "booster packs" that are bound to come out right around the corner. These really hurt the game by splitting the community up and always feel like such a blatant cash grab.

Thanks for bringing that up. Another thing that is brought up against CoD MW2 and Black Ops (map packs) but never mentioned for BF2.

The booster pack for BC2 was the incredible Vietnam expansion, and at $15 it was the same price as the garbage five additional maps the CoD series doles out twice a year.

I'll be buying both MW3 and BF3, though I only play the Infinity Ward CoD games.

I honestly can't get my head around why such a trivial issue as "BF3 or MW3" can be so polarising. BF fans are the worst offenders, but you're really all just petulant children.

what about the bf2 versions? and i don't necessarily mean content vs. price but splitting the community. That was a big deal back when the 1st MW2 map pack came out.

Pontifex why do you care so much about this? Move on with life. Play the game you'll enjoy the most.
