My two cents:
If you like large-scale maps, vehicles, environmental destruction, tactics, and squad combat, buy Battlefield 3.
If you like more close-quarters, infantry-oriented, run-around-in-circles-and-shoot-people-in-the-face type of gameplay, then buy Modern Warfare 3.
It depends on your preferred style of play.
I'm not dissing on CoD here either. And yes, I agree that BF3 fans are far more rabid than CoD fans. Me? I used to be in the BF3 camp, but now I'll be buying neither. Here's why:
I'm not buying MW3 for obvious reasons (Too fast-paced and twitch-based for me, same damn game from 4 years ago, and Activision is evil.) Also, it's sixty dollars.
I'm not buying BF3 because EA can go suck a dick, their pre-order bonus shenanigans were shameful, and they're removing their games from Steam now. (That's one thing MW3 has over BF3: it will actually be on Steam. Hurr durr.) It's like EA is basically saying: "We don't like money. We're going to cut off thousands of gamers from our demographic by not using Steam. Derp."
Oh and also, it's sixty dollars.
Most people here are obviously Battlefield fans, because it's a PC Gaming forum, and naturally there will be more BF3 advocates. In a thread like this I can always expect Pontifex to come and defend CoD, while making the same points over and over about why he hates BF. Again, I'm not dissing on him; it's nice to see someone on the other side every once in a while.
Pontifex, the only problem I see with your argument is the whole "Teammates always steal vehicles, it takes forever to walk anywhere, etc, etc". This is simply not the case if you play on a server with half-decent players, with a group of good teammates. From what I can tell, you've only played BF with retards. And for that, I apologize. BC2 is a legitimately good game, it really is. I just think you got the wrong impression from it.
Conclusion: You could probably find a game that at the same time is both cheaper and more fun than either MW3 or BF3. You could save money and stop promoting dick companies like EA and Activision.
My two alternatives would be:
Red Orchestra 2. It's hardcore and it's only $40.
Team Fortress 2. It does "run around and circles and shoot people in the face" much better than CoD, and it's free.
Ok. That's all. You can either heed my advice or totally ignore everything I say. I think I just needed to vent more than anything.
