not really... but do u really want to have ur sims uneducated?

They both educate your sims, which improves your mayor rating and makes more people want to live in your city. Start out with a library and then make elementary schools after a little while. Try to centrally locate your high school because it will service a large portion of the map.

Yes.

Elementary school educates young sims.

High school educates teen sims.

College educates young adult sims.

Libraries keep adult sims educated.

Yeah, for High TEch industry and Commercials to move in, you need an educated populace

im actually managing a city of 65,000 at like 6.5% taxes with just about full education and medical coverage. now i think its gonna get tricky

For 30 sim years, I had all the taxes set at 9%. The people kept comin'...almost begging for taxes .

When I start up the game again, I think I'll lower them a little...

I started a city with commercial taxes lowered to 5.5%, HT Industrial set to 5% with all other Industrial set to 20%. I kept the tax on the sims at the default.

Interestingly enough, I have had maximum demand for Industrial Agriculture through 27 sim years. I'm currently pulling in ~$1000 a month through taxes with a population of ~13,000. The goal of this city was to create it with nothing but commercial and high tech industrial as the hiring forces.

Clarification: I'm pulling a profit of ~$1000 a month.

Education leads to cleaner industries. Clean air and high EQ raises land values and other numbers, like average household income. I have one city where the running average is 85k.

Anybody tried making just a heavy industrial city with minimal commercial? I'm experimenting with one city that is nothing but Agriculture and minimal commercial. It is a pain though because each farm/stable/whatever hires so few people while taking up a lot of land. I had to bring taxes down on dirty industrial just to help me break even with my taxes and expenses.

Yeah, I've made a main city with commercial and residential and then beside it I have an industrial city. The industrial city has all the power plants, waste to energy plants, and water pumps. It sells these commodities to all of it's neighbouring cities. It's got about $3 million in the bank and makes ~$7000 a month

Low education leads to crime. Something like 40% of low education sims(we are talking EQ of around 10 or so) will commit crimes.

Yep, that's true too. In my nothing but commercial and high tech industrial city I have no police stations and low crime because I have a very educated populace.
