Can someone explain NZXT's case designs to me? What is that metal strap with a groove in it, on all of their cases? An accent strip?

It's a multi-function strip.
1. It helps hide cables along the edge of the motherboard.
2. It add an accent inside the case for visual interest (all the H-series cases have a side window.)
3. It is a spot to clamp a reservoir for watercooling.

I think most things today are aimed at kids. RGB, the names of products like the "Grenade" or "Dominator". The "cable management bar". Utility is now just an afterthought.

I have so many RoG stickers right now that I won't use...
...but I recently spent $250CDN on RGB fans recently, so...

It does have grommets. The bar is placed to hide the grommets and the wires coming out of them. So it is not useless. And if you don't like it, and especially if you are not planning to water cool your computer, you can remove it. Personally, I like it. It makes the inside a bit cleaner.

No they don't have grommets. i have three S340's and there are no grommets nor cutouts. it is just an open space behind the cable management bar. All you have to do is follow the link and look for yourself. it can be removed but it is not meant to be.
